A Series of Unfortunate Events: Watch (Fake) Teaser for Netflix Adaptation

The interwebs are ablaze with excitement over this beyond-creepy teaser for Netflix’s adaptation of Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events — if only it were legit.

The 35-second video, uploaded to YouTube by user Eleanora Poe — aka the editor-in-chief of The Daily Punctilio, a newspaper in the world of Snicket’s book series — is even more chilling than the 2004 film adaptation of the children’s novels, which starred Jim Carrey as the nefarious Count Olaf.

TVLine has confirmed that the video, though incredibly well-made, is not an official teaser for the Netflix series. (Anybody else getting fond flashbacks of the infamous hoax trailer for American Horror Story: Freak Show, which fooled fans and media professionals last summer?)

Little is known about Netflix’s Unfortunate Events adaptation; the live-action series was announced in Nov. 2014 and no further information has been released.

Hit PLAY on the (fake) trailer above, then drop a comment below: Do you hope this is what Netflix’s adaptation looks like?

  1. Well, look at what happened with the fan-made Doctor Who opening credits last season.

    • Wordsmith says:

Good point. They may just officially adopt this promo at some point, assuming that it matches the creative direction of the show they have in mind.

  2. Amy says:

Well, Netflix should hire this person then because this teaser is amazingly well done!

  3. Dude says:

They should have just bought it and taken credit, they’ll never come up with something better.

  4. Cornelius says:

I really wish we knew some news (any news, please!!!) about this show. Casting, episode numbers, if they plan to do all 13 books, and how they plan to stretch the story. I have not read these in years but would 1 -2 books be good per season? I need to know :(

  5. Dan says:

Really hope the show tells us what’s in the sugar bowl

  6. Perfect use of the Dresden Dolls for the song. Fits so well in that world.

  7. Raj says:

Any info on who actually did edit the trailer? All the articles just say “fan-made” and don’t delve any further than that.

  8. "Mosalsalat says:

It’s really very complicated in this busy life to listen news on TV, so I
simply use web for that purpose, and take the most up-to-date information.
