Ratings: 2BG, Molly, NCIS: LA Slip; Night Shift Ties High; Following Ticks Up

The Following Ratings Season 3

CBS’ 2 Broke Girls (with 7.3 million total viewers and a 1.9 rating), Mike & Molly (7.8 mil/1.8) and NCIS: LA (9.3 mil/1.6) all dipped in audience this Monday night while slipping two tenths in the demo.

Scorpion meanwhile did 9.6 mil/2.0, down 9 percent in audience while steady in the demo.

ABC | Dancing With the Stars (13.7 mil/2.0) and Castle (8.2 mil/1.4) each dipped in audience and a tenth in the demo.

FOX | The Following averaged 3.8 mil and a 1.2 across its double-pump, up 9 percent and a tenth from last week.

NBC | The Voice (11.9 mil/3.3) dipped 6 percent and a tenth, while The Night Shift (5.8 mil/1.6) rose 7 and 23 percent, tying its series high in the demo. (I’m thinking: significant Voice overrun. Check back later for finals.)

So, in the case of CBS, the total viewers and demos numbers were inversely related. Through the night, as viewers increased the demo decreased…hmmm. Would anyone like to speak to that?

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

The older people watching DWTS got winded and eventually changed channels?

        • herman1959 says:

Wait, I take that back – it’s the reverse of what you said, because the demo went DOWN – the younger people dropped out as the night went on. Therefore, I think we can say that Broke Girls has a younger demo than Mike and Mollie which has a younger demo than NCIS:LA. Of course we already knew that, but now we also know that “older people” have more staying power (as far as TV viewing is concerned). Um, I’ll stop there.

      • herman1959 says:

Please see my second post – I mean to reply to you, not myself. Thanks.

    • Ginger Snap says:

How about we get a dose of reality here.
Older people are the only ones who still watch TV the old fashioned way. They don’t use VOD or internet online streaming services. They have antenna or still subscribe to cable TV. If CBS says that NCIS is on at 9 p.m.on Monday, that’s when they watch it.
Which pretty much describes the demo for DWTS.

Meanwhile, your 18 – 49 year old watches TV when it’s convenient for them. Poor old Nielsen isn’t capturing their viewing habits anymore, but we’re still clinging to overnight ratings like it’s a mysterious revelation from God.
Meanwhile, the networks are looking at newer methods for tracking the real numbers. Even they don’t believe the overnights anymore.

  2. TicaTica says:

I still believe the problem with Castle is the demo not the viewers Season 8?? :(

    • Castle Fan says:

It may not be “that” kind of show, ala Scandal, Greys, etc. However, the writers should know by now that the storylines should be adjusted to create buzz with that key demographic.

and right now, it looks like Season 8 depends on ABC renewing the cast contracts.

    • SEI625 says:

I agree! The demo doesn’t reflect who the real viewership of Castle is. And lets face it…as good as the supporting cast is, the fans watch Castle to see Nathan and Stana. Just get a Season 8 where they can naturally tie up all the story arc and all the fans will be happy!

    • DarkDefender says:

Castle’s issues are the post 6×23 fallout and now without any confirmation of renewal (ie: re-signing of NF & SK) people are no longer vested. It’s sad, because this could have been a 10 season show.

  3. Mr. Tran K says:

Glad to see 2 Broke girls back and I’m very happy it got renewed (stay on Mondays or moved to Thursdays next season). Last night’s episode was absolutely PURR-FECT but disappointed the numbers went down from the last outing two weeks ago. Hope The Late Late Show with James Corden may booked Beth Behrs as a guest sometime soon because Beth is an amazing singer and she and James should do a duet together. FACT: James Corden is also an amazing singer.

  4. Betisa says:

Bad ratings for Castle, and they look really bad when you see that even TNS did better, but I’m not surprised, I wrote before the season start, the show needed new writers. Now it is late.

  5. kmw says:

Yes Castles actual viewers is nothing to sneeze at , but remember where their demo was even just last year at this time. I hope for Castles sake that The Night Shift was Voice overruns, because I cannot believe that show beat them in demo. Good for The Following but still not good enough. Everything else not really that surprising.

  6. kirads09 says:

The Following was really intense last night. Really a good two hours. And FINALLY (last minute literally) – Joe Carroll. “What took you sooo long?” Indeed. Am I the only one NOT trusting Ryan’s new (now live in) girlfriend?

    • katedfw says:

I thought it was a really good show and I like the direction the show is taking. And it wouldn’t be The Following without Joe Carroll! He is deliciously evil!

  7. michael todd says:

ncis will keep falling untill ziva comes back. they are showing repeat after repeat.and i do not no anyne that is watching it anymore. wake up hello ziva where are you.

    • c-mo says:

Wrong NCIS…the one on Monday is LA, not the original NCIS, that stayed on Tuesday.

    • Kevin says:

Well, as mentioned you’ve got the wrong NCIS. Second, “Ziva”, (Cote) left to do other things, like The Dovekeepers on next week–are you familiar with the expression, “a day late and a dollar short”? SMDH

  8. Boiler says:

I think many of you miss what popular means to certain people. The total viewers to me indicates the true popularity of the show. Based on this shows like Castle and CBS shows are popular with viewers. UNFORTUNATELY the dreaded demo is out there and that is where networks look at popularity. Too bad!!

  9. Carla Krae says:

The Night Shift is a great show, and last night’s ep was pretty emotional.

  10. s.locy says:

Please keep Castle. It has a great story line and the best personalitys.

  11. Priscilla Flynn says:

Ncis Los Angeles is by far the best and most interesting of the franchise…great cast, wonderful characters and non-formulaic stories. Ncis New Orleans is just a pale re-creation of NCIS and the original in the presence of Bishop has lost all its zing.

  12. MTB says:

The Following ticks up? REALLY? They make the FBI look so STUPID! They let 2 punk kids get to an eyewitness and then burn her? They have Mark in their sites and they just decide to talk things out before they cuff him? It’s just so stupid.
