Pilot Scoop: Melanie Griffith Lands 'Queenly' Role on ABC Comedy

Melanie Griffith The Brainy Bunch

ABC has recruited one very famous Working Girl for its pilot lineup.

Oscar-nominated actress Melanie Griffith has been cast on the network’s untitled comedy project from writers Wendy and Lizzie Molyneux, Deadline reports.

Previously titled The Brainy Bunch (and inspired by Kip and Mona Lisa Harding’s book of the same name), the single-camera pilot follows Kip Mitchell, who returns home from the military and becomes a stay-at-home dad, quickly realizing that he and wife Mona Lisa might have raised their kids to be too smart — and completely socially inept.

Griffith will play Celeste, Mona Lisa’s mom (and a former pageant queen), who invites her daughter’s family to stay with her.

Though Griffith has made recent guest appearances on Hawaii Five-0, Raising Hope and Hot in Cleveland, ABC’s pilot will be her first series regular role since the short-lived comedy Twins ended in 2006.

Hopefully both her mother Tippi Hedren and her daughter Dakota Johnson will guest star. And maybe she can get exes Don Johnson and Antonio Banders to guest as well.

I really liked Twins. She was the best part of the show too.
