Madonna Premieres 'Living for Love' at 2015 Grammys: Grade Her Performance

Madonna Grammy Performance

Just days after debuting her new single on Snapchat — it’s not just for nudes anymore! — Madonna on Sunday brought “Living for Love” to the Grammy Awards stage.

Introduced by Miley Cyrus and Nicki Minaj, Madge emerged from a rowdy sea of Maleficents bull-horned men, pulled directly from the music video she released earlier this month. The performance was essentially Madonna doing what she does best, casually stripping and demonstrating her favorite yoga poses.

And while there was plenty of booty shaking for all to enjoy, Madonna was careful not to repeat the same mistake she made on the red carpet earlier that evening. (Oops!)

Your thoughts on Madge’s performance? Rewatch the performance, grade it below, then drop a comment with your full review.

I’ll give it a B. It’s not a favourite of mine but at 56, she proved she can easily kick my ass.

  2. Jaden says:

Madonna was really out of breath for just walking back and forth and bending down.

  3. Jared says:

She is 56 years old and has been in the business for over 30 years! Props to her! She is still rocking it!

  4. Deb says:

Definitely not impressed. At the end she appeared to be trying to recreate her moves from Like A Virgin with laying on the stage.

  5. Kaba says:

    Imma give it a D…
    For Demons, Devil, and damned.
    That was of Satan.

  6. Jermey says:

Proved once again why she’s called the queen of pop. Loved the performance.

  7. Fernando says:

The grammys this years are just LAME. So freaking boring, i mean the presentations were so bad … i better go to sleep!

  8. DTME says:

    SHE IS BACK!!!
    MADONNA KICKED ASS

  9. Drew says:

The only thing sadder than a young singer who has to strip in order to sell records is an old woman who doesn’t know when it’s time to put it away.

    • Leo says:

So when you become old we have to throw you in a dumpster. At 50 years old

    • Really? says:

What a totally ageist remark. Here’s a thought, put away your keyboard until intelligence returns (if ever) to your small minded brain. I guess your brain thinks anyone older than 28 is worthless–must really suck to be someone like you………

      • Drew says:

Not at all. I think that there are plenty of beautiful, sexy older people. But part of that is growing and maturing. I think that old people who cling to childish behavior are desperate and sad.
It isn’t agist. It is the opposite. I accept age more than Madonna does.

      • Fran says:

I don’t even understand how you completely misunderstood Drew’s comment.

    • ninamags says:

      Totally agree, Drew.

She is trying to remain relevant but, no. I thought this song was released a few months ago?

    • Craig says:

Dude, let’s see what your wife looks like at 45 much less 57 and we will talk…. you know, when madonna is older and still has firm breasts and you need a bottle of viagra

    • icyndicey says:

I feel so embarrassed for her kids. Thank God they are sheltered from reality and always will be. If they had to face the real world on a day to day basis I would pity them.

  10. mike says:

I liked it. So far she sounds better that most others. Annie lenox wad a joke singing a 509 year old song

  11. bea says:

The only one with class is Taylor swift.

  12. kn1231 says:

I muted this performance as soon as it came on. The only good thing I can say is that Madonna looked a lot better than she did last year.

  13. Kevin says:

As you can see by the poll results she’s just as polarizing as ever. People who are saying the performance was demonic are being idiotic. Oh well like another of her songs says “you only see what your eyes want to see”. I gave it a B. She’s done better but she’s still the Queen.

  14. Julie says:

    Madonna was awesome ! Wow

  15. Leo says:

Gave her an A. At 56 she shows she can do better than most of the 20 somethings. Ageism has no limits, and if it is a woman, even worst. What people never forgive Madonna for is because she is a businesswoman. If she was a man, no problem. Guess what: will see how many of these so popular will be topping charts and selling concert tickets like she does 30 some years down the road.

  16. Jimmy says:

Can’t say I particularly enjoyed the song, but that’s true of a majority of Madonna’s recent work, but she rarely gives a disappointing performance.

  17. Tracy Waller says:

I thought she was going to stumble and break a hip, it was sad. Annie Lennox showed how it’s done!

  18. Eurydice says:

I don’t know – maybe a B-. She looked great but seemed kind of careful and awkward. And I’ll take off some points for the lame and dated devils.

  19. If you’re going to recreate your video, at least do it as well as Sia did with Chandelier…..

  20. Christina says:

Not good. Although she’s in great shape the song sucked and she needs to call it quits.

  21. Norm says:

Very catchy tone and energetic performance

  22. nancy says:

it’s time for her to act her age ……………. your not 20 anymore …… her performance proved it……please spare us , it was hard to watch. Song was awful

    • Really? says:

What pray tell is your age? Please give the actual age and not your shoe size. Speak for yourself or rather “please spare us” from your juvenile and dumb comments–see? Works both ways–tell us all what your major accomplishments are in the world–I mean you are telling a very successful singer to “act her age”, what great things have you done to make you the expert here? I’ll wait while you list them…..

    • Leo says:

Obviously she is relevant to you since you watched the performance. I was watching until she performed, after that, switched to another channel since no one else is relevant to me ( yes, I am a madonna’s fan so what).
What is exactly “acting your age”? Besides all the social constructs that define what you are “supposed” to do at 20, 30, or 70?
I guess you did not listen to the intro and stop worrying winning other people’s approval. Just be who you are. Plain and simple.

The Queen does it again! Madonna’s performance of “Living for Love” was AMAZING!!! Grade: A

  25. mary says:

Someone please explain to me what this performance had to do with love?

  26. Julia says:

I loved the song and most of the performance but in the middle she was definitely out of breath and there was awkward dancing. This is the first time watching her that I thought..she might be a bit old for this now.

  27. Rosy says:

    She’s a goddess. A!

  28. heather says:

    InDeed. A disaster.

  29. HitGirl says:

I think she’s too old for the dance number stuff. I noticed it at the Super Bowl she performed at and now last night. She looks somewhat awkward like she’s afraid of falling, definitely not confident, fluid or sure-footed. She should change it up – she’s pushing 60 and really starting to look it. Evolve the act Madonna, since you are evolving in age.

  30. FlucyLucy says:

I thought the production was very good BUT I thought Madonna looked slow and did not have the energy to keep up with the rest of the performers. I think she should have stood in one place, appropriately dressed and sung the song then it would have been wonderful.

  31. Esta Joy Kroten says:

Unfortunately, she looked like an old lady being dragged around and thrown around by younger people. If she hadn’t done all that, it would have been an awesome performance.

Wow! Im a bit amazed at people’s reactions toward Madonna’s performance! Well, maybe i shouldnt be. People in general are so judgemental. Madonna doesn’t have to sing, write, perform, direct movies, build schools in different countries, have a clothing line, go on tour etc. She established herself a successful artist. She has made millions of dollars and millions of fans. BUT she is doing what she loves! This is her passion, she has always been true to ot, to herself, to freesldom of expression, to her fans and to live worldwide. Why should she give up what she loves doing? Madonna is the Queen of pop, she has paved the way for all new, younger artists alike. Whether you all like it or not or agree or not. And really, some of you throwing satanism remarks out there obviously dont follow her story and meaning behind each of her songs and performances! M.Ciccone is a leader in empowering others to never, ever be ashamed to do what is in your heart, to break some rules and defy laws of ignorance and hate! #living for love #rebel heart
