Jeffrey Dean Morgan Joins Extant Season 2 as Roguish Bounty Hunter

Jeffrey Dean Morgan Extant

Jeffrey Dean Morgan‘s latest TV gig is outta this world.

The Grey’s Anatomy/Supernatural alum will co-star opposite Halle Berry when CBS’ interstellar drama Extant returns this summer, the network announced Thursday.

Morgan will play JD Richter, a “roguish… free-wheeling, hard-drinking” mercenary/bounty hunter who is fearless/bordering on reckless, mostly because he’s got nothing to lose. He is the Everyman who thought he had seen everything until Molly Woods (played by Berry) enters his life.

Extant‘s first season followed astronaut Molly as she reacclimated to life on Earth after being impregnated by an alien life form during a mission in space.

Season 2, CBS president Nina Tassler recently told reporters at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, will see a change in the series’ central mythology (AKA Molly will go on a search for her alien offspring).

Morgan joins a cast that differs greatly from that of Season 1; Goran Visnjic, who plays Molly’s husband John, and Camryn Manheim, who plays her friend Sam, will return for a few episodes. Hiroyuki Sanada and Michael O’Neill, who played Yasumoto and Alan Sparks respectively, will not be back at all.

Morgan’s other TV credits include Magic City and Weeds.

Let me be perfectly clear here: ANYTHING that brings Jeffrey Dean Morgan back to my screen is a very, very good thing indeed.

  1. Drewgo says:

Sounds just like “John Winchester” to me……

  3. dragons3 says:

Well, I know what I’ll be watching this summer. So good to have JDM back on the small screen.

  4. bradick says:

God, this seems like a lost cause. I’d rather him be on an established show (shameless would’ve been nice, for instance).

  5. S McMary says:

I guess I was under the impression (mistakenly) that Extant was just a one and done. Regardless, anything that brings Jeffrey Dean Morgan back on my screen is fine with me.

  6. Cory says:

People keep saying Extant is rebooting itself yet the way everyone describes season two, it sounds like a natural progression… she has the alien child in season one, she’s hunting for it in season two.

    • herman1959 says:

Exactly, anyone who watched Season 1 and paid attention would know that she would be looking for her alien-son. I’m just glad that Goran will be doing a few eps.

  7. Oh WOW, Great. I LOVE Jeffery Dean Morgan and pairing him with Hallie -oh WOW!!!!

  8. Jane says:

Love JDM. Hated Extant. What to do?

  9. Remy says:

So basically Papa Winchester meets aliens?

  10. suzyku says:

This show was totally lacking in almost every way! We tried watching it for several episodes, could barely stay awake and Halley Barrie was not good either! Like JDM however that being said, I don’t know if his casting is enough to save this dull show!

  11. Grey says:

This show should have been cancelled.

  12. Tonee says:

He is gorgeous…does he like older women…I could be a cougar for him

  13. Lori ann Baxter says:

I couldn’t get into the first season,as much as i tried. The cast was stiff, just couldn’t feel the chemistry. Jeffrey Dean Morgan will spice it up!! I will tune back in just to see him

  14. lqza says:

If he is in it, I will watch it…………………..simples!

  15. JDM is hot hot hot. I am still mad Magic City isn’t still on. What about the movie?

  16. carolyn ford says:

I love Jeffrey Dean Morgan….he is bringing some life back into Extant. I like the story line but some of the acting is pretty stiff. I do not like Meryl Streeps daughter, she can’t act!!!! But if he landed the part in the Good Wife, does that mean they will kill him off on Extant????
