Golden Globes Ratings

NBC’s broadcast of the 72nd annual Golden Globe Awards drew 16.1 million total viewers and a 5.0 demo rating (per fast nationals), down 7 percent in the demo versus last year’s show (which hit 10-year highs of 20.9 mil/6.5).

UPDATE: Per near-final numbers, the Globes have been adjusted up to 19.8 mil/5.8.

CBS | Leading out of a football-boosted 60 Minutes, Madam Secretary did 11.6 mil and a 1.7, rising two tenths. The Good Wife (8.5 mil/1.3) was flat.

FOX | Everything was down versus last week’s football-boosted line-up.

  1. Taylor S. says:

Not really a surprise. The comedy was very bland & unoriginal and the nominees were all boring.

    • whatdwhat says:

Bland and unoriginal? Really? Did you actually see any of the monologue?

    • Ron says:

Of the nominees who won, sure their speeches weren’t hilarious (with the exception of a couple), but I wouldn’t say boring at all. Several of them were extremely touching and emotional (e.g., Joanne Froggatt, George Clooney, Gina Rodriguez, Kevin Spacey, Common, etc.), and to me, that’s impactful and not the least bit boring. Those that I mentioned, along with a few others, said things that needed to be heard, and I appreciate them for sharing extremely wise words with the world.

  2. Gail says:

Ratings on these award shows depend on how popular the nominated movies are. This year’s crop was less impressive than last year. Several of the films such as “Still Alice” have only played in a few cities and are largely unknown to most people.

  3. Do they think it could be from the lack of Tina and Amy? They didn’t have near the amount of screen time that they had last year.

  4. bj says:

Do you think it could also be for lack of network viewers. They far outnumber the cable viewers and yet their favorite shows are never nominated because they don’t “count.” I, for one, didn’t count as a viewer this year after reading all the nominations.

    • Sam says:

No because plenty of people watch cable shows and don’t watch broadcast tv When The Walking is TV’s number 1 show among viewers under 50 and Game of Thrones is number 2 is pretty much proof a lot of people watch cable it’s just more of the younger crowd that watches shows time delayed.

  5. Sparky77 says:

If Revenge doesn’t rebound to higher than 1.0 demo in the next episode I really hope the writers are readying a series finale for the show. To think that they can drag this out for another year is delusional

    • flower_petals says:

I really hope they end it this season as well. It can’t believe it lasted this long. I’m a faithful watcher but this really should be it.

  6. Mike R. says:

Bummed with Galavant, was really hoping for maybe another limited run next year, hopefully if it goes up next year there will be a chance for more.

  7. DavidSask says:

Give Revenge a farewell movie please or final 2 hr. episode if not wrapped up for this season. Is clear the show is cancellation bound!

  8. Tran says:

Wasn’t surprised at all earlier today about the news that Madam Secretary got renewed for a second season.

  9. A says:

    What about the Librarians?

  10. Matty says:

Wow, Madam Secretary seems to be holding its own!

  11. It's Me says:

    Bye Revenge.

  12. Stanislava says:

Galavant is fantastic!I hope the ratings are better next week.

  13. Ken says:

ABC has the BEST dramas. Why are they canceling “Revenge”? It’s a crime. The best show in a long time. Cancel Grey’s Anatomy. That’s one that is tired and we stopped watching 3 years ago!
