Awkward Creator, HIMYM EP Land Comedy Pilots at ABC Family

ABC Family

ABC Family has ordered a pair of half-hour, single-camera comedy pilots, one from How I Met Your Mother scribe Barbie Adler and another from Awkward creator Lauren Iungerich, TVLine has learned.

The Adler-penned project, titled Kevin From Work, is a workplace comedy about a young man unlucky in love who professes his love to a co-worker, thinking he’ll never see her again after he accepts a job offer overseas. But then that job offer is rescinded, and now they have to continue to work with each other.

Adler will serve as an executive producer alongside veteran TV producers Aaron Kaplan and McG (the latter of whom will direct the pilot).

The potential series from Iungerich, titled Tough Cookie, is described as a fresh take on the “friends and family” convention. It follows a young mother who isn’t ready to parent and her daughter who doesn’t want to be parented.

David Janollari (Six Feet Under) will executive-produce alongside Iungerich.

“Single-camera comedies represent an evolution of our comedy brand,” ABC Family EVP of Programming and Development Karey Burke said. “We look forward to building a successful single camera comedy franchise to match the success we’re having with multi-cam comedies.”

Liking the sound of d 1st 1. The 2nd 1 is like Mom without Allison Janney n the drugs n alcohol.

Kevin From Work sounds awesome! I’m really looking forward to that one, hope it makes it.

  4. Diz says:

I’ll watch the first, probably not the second.

I don’t like the sound of either but it depends on casting whether I would watch. I love Baby Daddy but there is always a point where I get so done with the back and forth between Ben & Riley & Danny but I love the cast especially Bonnie & Tucker so I keep coming back.

The dramas on ABC Family are amazing; Fosters & Switched are two of the best shows on TV right now. The comedies however, need work. They feel hyper-fake and I can never connect to them. I hope these two new shows are a little more grounded.

wasn’t the first one already the plot of a movie?
