Walking Dead Companion Series Casts Cliff Curtis as Male Lead

Walking Dead Cliff Curtis

Gang Related alum Cliff Curtis will head up a new “crew” as the male lead in The Walking Dead‘s upcoming companion series.

Per our sister site Deadline, the Kiwi actor — whose TV credits also include Missing and Trauma — will star as a divorced teacher who endeavors to do right by everyone in his life.

The female lead, playing a guidance counselor (and mother to Frank Dillane and Alycia Debnam Carey), has not yet been cast.

The as-yet-untitled AMC project is set during the same “zombie” apocalypse that Rick, Daryl et al are dealing with, but in a different geographical location.

  1. Tran says:

Great casting news. Cliff Curtis was so good at being bad as Javier Acosta on the short lived Fox series Gang Related.

  2. jasie says:

Jessalyn Gilsig should Olay the female lead if the guidance counselor.

  3. Moment says:

It’ll be interesting to see how this series turns out, as they have no comic book material to take inspiration from. It’ll also mean that people won’t see deaths coming.

  4. Amy says:

it would be awesome if it were set in NZ, so we could see what’s happening in the rest of the world. And hear his regular accent!

    • Moment says:

There’s not really enough of interest in New Zealand to keep a series like TWD going long term(Not to mention its a country of like 4.5 million people), at least basing in another state there are plenty of places of interest.

      • lechatnoir says:

There is not much going on NZ in the first place. It has nothing to do with the country’s superficy. Besides 4,5 ain’t small for the surface they occupy. If it was set in NZ he would NEVER get to play the lead. NZ and Au have a strict no dark skin policy.

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. I can’t believe I just read that! How do you think people like Temuera Morrison, Cliff Curtis, Jay Lagaia’a, Keisha Castle-Hughes etc got their starts? Cliff Curtis would absolutely be given the lead in NZ. But there isn’t a whole lot of money in taking a job in NZ unless it is bankrolled by the United States… which doesn’t happen very often. It would in the case of TWD.

Also, there is plenty of interest in NZ to keep a series like TWD going… you don’t think we have superficy? Once again, it just goes to show you don’t know NZ. There is abundant interesting superficy all over the place. Sure, there are no massive abandoned chunks of city. It tends to be rural. But we still have more than 200 years of history. It’s not Europe, but we are not a whole lot younger than most of American colonisation.

4.5 million aint small for the surface we occupy? NZ is bigger than the United Kingdom. 76th largest country in the world. 32nd lowest population density. We might look little cos we sit down there next to Australia on the map, but we aren’t actually that little.

Before talking about NZ, how about educating yourself on us?

(And yes, it would be awesome if Cliff Curtis was allowed to use his kiwi accent, I agree!! I loved when Rose McIvor brought that to Tinkerbell in OUAT. Most Americans just thought it was Australian, though. hehe.)

How unfortunate. He is a hack actor. He is also really gross and ugly. I will not be watching.

    • Loser Patrol says:

Judgey much? Sheesh. What, only attractive people survive in an apocalypse? Having a diverse cast, including attractiveness is more realistic than a cast of models.

  6. Jackie says:

When is this supposed to begin production?

  7. James D says:

great choice Cliff is a wonderful actor. I’m looking forward to this.

  8. Ben says:

Matt, I love to see you use Kiwi in a way many Americans seem to find tough!

  9. Bill says:

I’d like to see it take place in a colder climate area. It would be interesting to see how people take shelter without indoor heating….. and frozen zombies would be pretty cool, like the White Walkers almost

  10. Holly says:

Hell yes! I have been dying to see what It is like else where… I would love to see what out is like out in the middle of the desert and sparsely populated areas as such… still there could be a spin-off in places all over the damn globe and I would be happy I can’t get enough of The Walking Deadbut yes other geographical areas are a huge must
