Ratings: Arrow Xover Hits Series High, Red Band Rises, The Middle Ties Low

Arrow Ratings High

Part 2 of The CW’s superhero crossover event led Arrow to an all-time high demo rating (1.4) and its second-largest audience ever (3.92 million, trailing only the series’ launch), per finals. Versus its last fresh outing, Arrow soared 51 and 56 percent.

TVLine readers gave the episode an average grade of a very, very high “A.”

The 100 led out of that with 1.9 mil and a 0.6, up 20 percent in audience while steady in the demo.

FOX | Hell’s Kitchen (3.6 mil/1.2) ticked up a tenth, while Red Band Society‘s winter finale (3 mil/0.9) rose 24 percent and two tenths.

CBS | The two-hour Survivor (8.6 mil/2.1) was flat, while Stalker (7.5 mil/1.5) dipped 10 percent and a tenth.

ABC | The Middle (7 mil/1.6, tying a series low), The Goldbergs (6.6 mil/1.7), Modern Family (9 mil/2.8) and black-ish (6.8 mil/2.1, series low) all suffered significant drops, while Nashville (5.3 mil/1.3) was down two tenths.

NBC | The Rockefeller Center tree lighting drew 9.4 mil and a 1.9, while an SNL Christmas special did 6.2 mil/1.9.

  1. Concerned says:

It feels like every single week modern family drops. Has it had any gains this year? Is this the worst rated year?

    • Dave says:

Yes … largely because it’s completely stopped being funny.

      • David4 says:

Wait… It was funny at some point? I must have missed that episode.

        • Ellinas1978 says:

Rewatch the first four seasons. Shouldn’t be hard they are on USA pretty much all the time.

          • ChrisGa says:

Yeah, I watched part of the Thanksgiving marathon on USA and it reminded me how great the show once was. Last season was a vast drop in quality(I’d argue another show probably should’ve won that Best Comedy Emmy) and this season has been the worst yet.

    • Jeremy says:

It’s a show on its sixth season, the drops are expected. Quality wise This season has been pretty good for the most part

  2. Dave says:

I’m amazed all 8.6-million of us hung around through two hours of Survivor last night … it was only the last minute & a half that was any good.

    • Matt Webb Mitovich says:

      You made me curious: The half-hours went 8.6 mil > 9.3 mil > 8.2 mil > 8.5 mil.

    • crog says:

To change up the game kinda, but how dumb is everyone to not take Jaclyn out when now they have Jon and her against them, instead of just Jon being mad if they did that

  3. Coal. says:

I’m liking The 100 especially characters like Bellamy and Raven with the maturity they are showing having outgrown those teenage driven hormonal behaviour which tends to plague The CW shows. Even Octavia tackled the whole Lincoln situation rationally. Even the teens at the Mountain place a proving to be very intelligent. Its a pity the ratings aren’t better.

  4. Sparky says:

So happy for Arrow!!! 1.4 is brilliant for what was a great episode last night!!! Such a fan girl!!!

  5. Sparky77 says:

Well done to everyone on the Flash and Arrow teams!! Loved both episodes and I’m really happy that Arrow scored so well last night!!!

  6. Dean says:

Yup 100 is done. If it got more or less what it usually gets while arrow got a series high its over.

  7. mollytanner says:

I’m glad Natalie made some kind of move last night, even if she could’ve just done nothing and been ok too.

  8. E says:

So happy about Arrow, I love it so much and the two flarrow episodes this week was just something else.

  9. Moment says:

Personally I think The 100 did well enough, it clearly doesn’t share the same audience as Arrow but at the same time it has a decent viewership. I think it stands a good chance of renewal.

  10. The ATL affiliate showed local programming at the 8pm slot instead of The Middle here, not sure why. But that is a big market to take out of circulation.

  11. Rick Katze says:

The Flash/Arrow combo was one of the best crossover episodes. They included most of the characters from each show instead of the usual one member showing up for some minor part in the show. The Flash/Arrow combo thoughtfully integrated everyone. Now they have a high bar to match. Hopefully they continue to excel.

  12. Vern says:

The Flash Arrow crossover was amazing. There was real contrast with the tone of each show. They need to do something like this at least once a season.
