Scoop: HIMYM's Alyson Hannigan Returns to CBS, Books Holiday Guest Stint on The McCarthys

65th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards - Arrivals

Here’s an early Christmas present for How I Met Your Mother fans: Alyson Hannigan is returning to CBS, albeit for one night only.

Hannigan has signed on to guest-star in the Eye network’s rookie Thursday-night sitcom The McCarthys, TVLine has learned.

She’ll appear in the Dec. 18 holiday-themed episode as Pam, Marjorie and Arthur’s upstairs tenant who is sweet, but fresh from a break-up and broken-hearted. In order to cheer her up, Marjorie invites Pam to join the family for Christmas Eve, however, as Pam watches the McCarthys play their very competitive annual gift-exchange swap, she is shocked by how the family treats each other.

The gig reunites Hannigan with HIMYM’s longtime director Pam Fryman, who serves as an EP/director on McCarthys.

But she’ll be on a show I don’t watch? Youuuuuuuuuuuuuuu sonsofbeaches.

  2. Kay says:

I’d like to see her on Grimm, where her hubby is working…..I think she could play a pretty good witch…a nod to the old days of Buffy….

  3. Moment says:

Not a great choice for her, for one The McCarthys must be one of the worse rated new CBS sitcoms in years. That 1.4 after a 2.1 Two and a Half Men tells the whole story.

  4. Tran says:

Hope The McCarthys won’t last that long because they booked Willow from Buffy for a guest starring stint. If CBS pulls the plug on The McCarthys depending on how many episodes it will air, the upcoming season of Mike & Molly should definitely fill the void in the 9:30 p.m. Thursday night time slot.

  5. Will says:

Will this series even still be on the air by the time the holidays come around? Atrocious ratings.

  6. I hope that Alyson Hannigan will become a regular on the MCCarthy. She will give new life to the series.

  7. boo shes on a show which i thought the pilot stank

  8. hopefully the show gets to that episode for her because in my opionion the show is very crappy

  9. Dick Whitman says:

Doing this as a favor to her good friend Pam Fryman. I good chance the show will have been cancelled before that date.

  10. ScottJ says:

The McCarthys is the only comedy I’m currently bothering with. Which pretty much guarantees its cancellation.

  11. JJ says:

Will this show last long enough for the episode to actually air?

  12. PantsAPoppin says:

Yes. Yes it will. Just watched the episode. Now don’t you feel foolish?
