Stroh, No! Billy Burke to Reprise Closer Villain in Major Crimes Two-Parter

Billy Burke on Major Crimes

One of The Closer‘s most loathsome creatures will finally appear on TNT’s Major Crimes in the slithery flesh, when Billy Burke reprises his role as Phillip Stroh in a wintertime two-parter, TVLine has learned exclusively.

Burke last portrayed the legal lizard/serial rapist/murderer in The Closer‘s August 2012 series finale, when Brenda risked her career to prove him guilty of murder.

The character has since been mentioned on the spin-off Major Crimes and most notably had his legal fate (seemingly?) sealed by testimony from Captain Sharon Raydor’s ward, former street rat Rusty Beck — though Stroh himself was a no-show at the pre-trial hearing (meaning Burke did not appear on screen).

When Stroh actually resurfaces — in the final two episodes of Season 3, airing Jan. 12 and 19 — he has fired his counsel (sorry, Seven of Nine!) and is now acting as his own attorney. To that end, he wants a new deal, and just may have the leverage to get one.

Burke’s other TV credits include Revolution, Rizzoli & Isles and My Boys.

TNT’s Major Crimes resumes Season 3 on Monday, Nov. 24. How excited are you for Stroh’s long-anticipated encore?

  1. Going to be awesome………

  2. Tran says:

Billy Burke will always be Miles Matheson from Revolution in our hearts.

  3. Kristine Diethrich says:

Didn’t Kyra say she might come back for this story line if Billy did????

    • DL says:

Yeah, something like that. I thought it was that they wouldn’t bring back Stroh if they couldn’t also have her make an appearance as Brenda. Maybe she’ll have a cameo and they’re keeping it a secret? We can hope!

  4. Anne says:

This is terrific news. Can’t wait to see. I hope Brenda comes back for this as well.

  5. drb999 says:

Awesome. Stroh is Burke’s best role. He’s just perfectly slimy and creepy in this role. You just wanna put a bullet through his head because he’s so evil.

  6. Diz says:

I never watched the closer but this sounds awesome!

  7. Bob Smith says:

Kyra Sedgwick needs to appear WITH him. This would tie in well with her onscreen husband’s health predicament.

    • CL says:

She’s not coming back because she isn’t interested and couldn’t care less about Closer fans wanting it to happen.

      • kylie says:

        Dude chill out

      • Anne says:

Really, CL, you need to calm down.

      • Tony says:

I agree, CL, you really need to chill out and calm down. Not to mention I do not believe for one second what you are claiming. Unless you can provide us with proof (an interview) where Kyra Sedgwick said this. Until then I do not believe you and think you are kind of full of it. To my knowledge, Kyra Sedgwick never said this and has always left the door open to returning. Yes, she may have wanted to take a break before she returns, but she is open to it some day.

Especially if they do a spin-off of Major Crimes with the LAPD Special Operations Bureau with John Tenney/Fritz Howard, it will be hard to keep her off the show forever.

        • CL says:

I’m feeling quite okay, thank you for your concern. I’m just realistic and saying it like it is. You can delude yourself all you want. Fact is, she hasn’t been on in 3 seasons, that confirms what I’m saying.

  8. Columbus says:

    Oh no…he fired Jeri Ryan!!

  9. Laurie' says:

Love Billy Burke! He does an awesome job playing this character. Now if only NBC would bring back Revolution!!!!!

  10. Maureen says:

It will be great to see Billy Burke back on TV. Still miss him very much as Miles Matheson in Revolution.

  11. Kate says:

I will only get excited if Brenda is coming along for the ride …

  12. Deion says:

This needs to cap this off, Phillip Stroh is an ever present lingering thread from The Closer that drags down Major Crimes. Let us be done with him. Kyra, come on. One more for the road.

    • Roy Preston says:

I agree completely. Words cannot express how bored I am with this character and this storyline. I thought they’d finally wrapped up this nonsense; knowing now that they’re going to drag it out over another season (or possibly more, god forbid) just sucks away all my interest in watching Major Crimes when it comes back this summer.

  13. MIGirl says:

Can’t stand this guy. Make him go away.

  14. dginga says:

Oh no. Make him go away. Can’t stand the Stroh character.

  15. JEF says:

    Great news!

  16. Diane Gollnitz says:

I’m another vote for bringing Brenda back.

    • CL says:

Kyra Sedgwick is not coming back because she isn’t interested and couldn’t care less about Closer fans wanting it to happen.

  17. Nancy says:

They need to bring Brenda back for the trial

    • CL says:

Kyra Sedgwick is not coming back because she isn’t interested and couldn’t care less about Closer fans wanting it to happen.

  18. Julia says:

Please, please, pretty please Kyra come back for at least one episode . Luv ya!

    • CL says:

Kyra Sedgwick is not coming back because she isn’t interested and couldn’t care less about Closer fans wanting it to happen.

  19. joseph madrid says:

Kyra please come back! if youre going to be in Brooklyn Nine-Nine why not on Major Crimes?

    • CL says:

Kyra Sedgwick is not coming back because she isn’t interested and couldn’t care less about Closer fans wanting it to happen. She prefers to guest star on a show nobody wants her to be in instead.

  20. Nothing personal against Mr. Burke but Stroh I don’t know if I can watch it. Such a chilling character.

  21. Denise Smith says:

very excited to see him return! I loved him on Rizzoli & Isles!

  22. Chris says:

The new season is only 6 weeks long? What?

  23. Angel Burns says:

Stroh is despicable!!! And although I am completely sold on Captain Raydor and her ability to smoothly and “legally” do away with Stroh, it would be nice if Sharon and Brenda could team up and put an end to that monster for good.

  24. not excited but lets see how the events pans out

  25. Debbie Giannamore says:

Story needs to die so Sharon and Rusty can be safe

  26. Charlie LAMBERTY says:

We need put this guy away for good. Great show I hope it lasts more than a few years

  27. Deb D. says:

I’d only be interested in seeing that creepy character (no offense, Billy Burke – great acting job) if Brenda Leigh is going to be there to help send him to the chair (or get the needle).

  28. Linda Dukeslaw says:

Stroh was one of the greatest villins I have ever seen as played by the multi-talented Billy Burke. Keep the guy alive!

  29. Myrna Riquier says:

I don’t want to see him ever again. I hate him.

  30. vicky says:

End Stroh and move on. Great cast but Rusty in peril has been done enough.

  31. Karen says:

Phillip Stroh on The Closer was the one who got away. I always hoped they would catch him and they finally did. His storyline is complicated and twisted, I love it. One of the creepiest and memorable villains.

  32. Bonnie CollinS says:

About time!! Billy Burke is great in the role!!!! Where is Brenda!! Why did capitan oh no chief Taylor have to die? I’m all for Fritz having a bigger role.
