Helix Season 2 Video Teases New Viral Outbreak, Ominous Steven Weber

The new season of Syfy’s Helix brings a new viral mystery to solve — and from the looks of this exclusive teaser video, Steven Weber‘s enigmatic cult leader may be at the crux of it.

Season 2 of the sci-fi drama finds Billy Campbell’s Dr. Alan Farragut and his CDC team, still haunted by the Narvik crisis at Arctic Biosystems, investigating the outbreak of a new disease on a Windjammer. Clues lead them to an island inhabited by a cult that is dead-set on creating a utopian society.

Weber (Murder in the First, Studio 60) will heavily recur as Brother Michael, the cult’s charismatic leader… who just so happens to be a world-class geneticist. Hmmm.

Helix Season 2 will be released Friday, Jan. 16 at 10/9c, leading out of the 12 Monkeys series premiere.

The continued absence of Sergio concerns me, but not enough to be WAY excited about this 20 second trailer (what is it with Syfy and their super short clips, c’mon Syfy)
They cast Brother Michael perfectly, Steven is super creepy. The new virus looks AWFUL which will be fun. Julia looks like she’s being/was being tortured or experimented on at some point. Alan has a beard. Peter’s cover is still intact?

It bothers me a lot, where’s Sanada? I guess they all died in the season finale?

      • Hornswaggler says:

Nah, we know Sergio’s fine – he was originally in the last scene with Alan before the edited it. I don’t think Hatake’s dead, since he seemed to be doing okay when the helicopter left. My current guess is that he just ditched the whole operation entirely since they can’t hold Jane over him anymore and they already have Julia.

  2. Teag says:

Wait so they’re essentially rebooting? No mention of Julia being an executive for that company?

    • hornswaggler19 says:

This is 15 months after the end of season one, so a lot has happened in between. We’re apparently going to get flashbacks to fill in some of the gaps, but for the moment it looks like they’ll be hitting the ground running and then backtracking as it proves necessary.

I am so confused!!!! What happened after Julia joined the others? Or is this becoming an American horror story anthology type thing?

    • hornswaggler19 says:

I also mentioned it above but I think you’d be notified of a reply so to clear up some confusion – season 2 starts off 15 months after the end of season 1. It’s the same story, but a lot has happened since ABS fell. The showrunner says we’re gonna get some flashbacks to fill in gaps, but the main focus is going to be what’s happening in the present on the island.
And it wouldn’t be Helix without being confusing, right?

  4. dreamlife613 says:

Season 1 was a lot of fun. Sure, it could be silly and over-the-top, but with characters like Julia, Ballaseros, and Anana, I had a blast watching it. I’m looking forward to season 2. Ballaseros better be back, preferably Anana too.

  5. ValeM says:

Esta temporada promete diversión, que es lo que más me gusta de la serie. Espero la aparición de Mark Ghanimé pronto. Me parece que tiene reservado un personaje fabuloso, ojalá no de héroe; éstos son aburridos como Alan.

So did helix just end on April 10th
