Reign Sneak Peek: Mary Finally Loses It, Lashes Out at Lola Over Francis

I guess the old saying still rings true: You can only spend so much time in the same castle as the woman who mothered your husband’s child before something has to give.

OK, that might not be a time-honored pearl of wisdom — yet — but it certainly applies to this exclusive clip from Thursday’s Reign (The CW, 9/8c) in which Mary and Lola finally address the baby elephant in the room.

“Has it ever occurred to you that your cage is of your own making?” Mary snaps. “That the bars formed the minute you decided to sleep with the man that I love, knowing that I loved him still?”

As you can imagine, Lola doesn’t appreciate being called a trollop — in so many words — and things get heated between the royal frenemies.

Lola needs to take a seat…I will say this for her she has a lot of nerve!!

    • the girl says:

Several seats! She knew that having Francis’ baby and making him aware of it would trap her and yet here we are. Like Mary said, you created this cage. Take responsibility for your choices and stop blaming everyone else. Mary has every right to be angry with you for what YOU CHOSE to do, for something that will affect her and her marriage, that she had no say in.

      • adam says:

I just want to say that Lola tried to have an abortion and was stopped, also she tried to marry someone else. Mary told Francis about the baby. Also, Lola tried to leave again, even after Francis found her and the baby.

        • tp says:

Mary told Francis about the baby after LOLA told her too. Lola could have went to the real Julian’s family and said the child was his. No one would have known. Lola did this to herself. She couldn’t have thought that Francis would let her leave with his child. Lola has been the worst friend since they got to the French court. She has never really been a true friend. Mary should have sent her on her way when Lola blamed Mary for Colin trying to rape her.

  2. L says:

Mary should have banished Lola when she had the chance…she’s not thinking smartly and long term like a Queen should be. Getting a bit concerned with how far this show is straying from the historical record at this point.

  3. Snooze. Something drastic needs to happen soon. I love Reign, but damn if this season is one long snoozefest thus far. And can the writers PLEASE give Mary a different line? Every episode has her professing to be the QUEEN. Honey, WE KNOW.

  4. christine says:

I gave up on historical accuracy on “Reign” Its never been the priority on this show but it is entertaining

  5. Jess says:

I’d be pissed too. They used to be friends and Lola did sleep wih her husband and had his baby too. But this is her husband’s fault too.

    • Lynn says:

I agree that they’re both at fault. However, I do blame Lola more because she knew she’d be seeing Mary every day once she returned to Court. She also knew that Mary still loved Francis. Francis, on the other hand, had no plans to see Mary or return to Court at all since Mary was engaged to Bash.

  6. Tracey says:

Realistically speaking, I know they’re taking liberties with how this all plays out on TV and how it actually did play out in history. I mean Francis II wasn’t even physically able to father any children with anyone due to a physical ailment. He even died a year after he took the throne. But truthfully if this was historically correct, this Lola person would be exiled from court and her child would be raised by other people. She probably wouldn’t even see her child for years. That’s all.

  7. Lanie says:

I feel sorry for both of them because friends should talk it out without anger. Lola is getting the worst end of the deal because everybody thinks she got a baby out of Francis all by herself. He was a willing partner. BOTH of them assumed Mary and Bash would already be married. They did not know. Francis has a hard time keeping his pants up anyway. REMEMBER Olivia? Where was the scorn for that one? After Mary and Francis shipped off their little regret boat, he went right to Olivia and she was willing to let it happen. Don’t forget the other one in epi. 1 that he went to in Mary’s old room to play around with. Mary thinks being a Queen trumps everything these days. Lola has been a good friend. Things happen to friendships and that’s just the way it is. REIGN in great no matter what they write.

    • Lynn says:

He went to Olivia after he saw Mary & Bash kissing. He didn’t sleep with her then though, not until the next episode. Also, he broke off the alliance with Mary and told her they could see other people before he slept with Olivia.

Also, I think Lola deserves the brunt of Mary’s anger. Even if Mary & Bash were married, Lola knew that Mary was still in love with Francis. Francis was not planning to return to Court ever.

    • tp says:

Francis had no reason to show loyalty to Mary at the time he slept with Lola. Mary literally took everything away from him and his family and was about to marry his brother. Lola knew that Mary was still in love with Francis. She knew she was going back to court and would look Mary in the face knowing she had betrayed their supposed friendship. Lola is not a good friend. Lola even blamed Mary for Colin trying to rape her. Good friend? Puhleeze. Mary should have sent her back to Scotland after that.

  8. Lynn says:

Wow, Lola has a lot of nerve! If I was Mary, I would have slapped her upside the head! And is Francis ever going to show any anger about Mary & Lola keeping the baby a secret from him for months?!

  9. Amanda says:

Bring back Remy for Lola, or give her a new love.

  10. Isobel says:

Mary’s right Lola had a choice the night she decided to sleep with Francis, if she’s pissed off about no choices now, she only has herself to blame. Also as another commentator mentioned she could have passed off the baby as her husbands child, there were no dna tests at the time and she could claim he was premature if they questioned the dates. Also couples at the time did have sex while engaged, as long as the couple did marry it wasn’t a big deal for children to be conceived before marriage as long as the woman was married

    • Isobel says:

Claim to Julian’s family it’s his and to the court who think Remy is Julian, that he died in the plague and she’s a respectable widow with a legitimate child. It wasn’t a bad thing in Henry the eighth’s reign before he had a son to have his bastard, he had no brothers and the child could be legitimised, but Francis has lots of brothers who would be ahead in succession
