Fox Pulls Utopia From Tuesdays, MasterChef Junior to Claim Time Slot

Utopia Cancelled from Tuesdays

Fox’s grand “social experiment” is being scaled back to one day a week sooner than planned.

Effective immediately, Utopia will now air only on Fridays at 8/7c. (As originally envisioned, it was to drop the Friday telecast after six weeks.) Its Tuesday time slot will ultimately be inhabited by Season 2 of MasterChef Junior, starting Nov. 4.

Until then, an encore of the hour-long Family Guy/Simpsons crossover episode will fill the void on Oct. 7, followed by repeats of the Simpsons and Bob’s Burgers season openers (on Oct. 14).

Post-season baseball coverage occupies Fox Tuesdays on Oct. 21 and 28.

In its most recent Tuesday outing, Utopia drew 2 million total viewers and a 0.8 demo rating, while MasterChef Junior in its freshman season averaged 5.6 mil and a 2.1, airing on Fridays.

  1. Teag says:

Dang. Hopefully some of them are 2 hour episodes now.

  2. Eric says:

This is hardly surprising. I would have preferred them to put something like Red Band Society in it’s place, because I will like that show would pair well with New Girl and TMP, but this works too.

  3. Tran says:

Really hope that Utopia is going to get one season tops before Fox pulls the plug on that horrible reality/social experiment series.

  4. Et al says:

    $50 million well spent!

    • ChicagoDan says:

So glad FOX chose Utopia & RBS over AD! (TBS) and AH. Brilliant. Looking better every day.

      • Eric says:

RBS is actually excellent, and still manages to pull in almost twice the viewers of Utopia. Please don’t compare those to each other.

        • Alexandra says:

Agreed. Hoping they find a way to save Red Band. Putting it opposite Modern Family, one of the most popular shows which appeals to the EXACT SAME DEMOGRAPHIC (families with tweens and teens) is not doing the show any good. I would have voted for giving it Utopia’s Tuesday slot. They would get all the teen girls who are suffering with Pretty Little Liars is on hiatus.

  5. Moment says:

I thought this would happen. This will help New Girl and Mindy. Good for the fans.

  6. Tim says:

If Bella and Red get voted out, there’s really no need to watch

  7. KC says:

Shocker! Red Band is next after their 13 eps.

  8. ankga says:

that is embarassaing. in this year. fox producing sh.t!!!

  9. Kay says:

There’s to much on Monday nights, wish Fox would put Sleepy Hollow on Tuesdays!

  10. BrittBrat says:

At least the kids on MCJ are talented. Can’t say that about the people on Utopia!

  11. Boiler says:

Nice they are getting rid of this junk but I don’t see how Master Chef Jr. will help the comedies after them. They need a Sleepy Hollow, try red Band, something

    • Moment says:

Master Chef Jr skews more female than male(And New Girl and Mindy being on afterwards would appeal), it also rates low 1s, and is a cheap show to put in the slot to steady the ship.

  12. S. says:

Is Fox reading the TVLine comments? Could’ve sworn last week someone said if it was up to them, they’d put Masterchef Junior on instead of Utopia. Freaky.

  13. Billy Ray says:

did someone else say there was gambling at Rck’s

  14. Name That Tune says:

    Gordon Ramsay to the rescue.

  15. I.R.E. says:

I prefer Glee’s return right now to replace Utopia instead! It’s the only way to support both New Girl and The Mindy Project for safety!

  16. Delante says:

The first step to cancellation…just admit defeat Fox….we won’t judge you!

  17. Sharon McClendon says:

I love the show, but Tuesdays are jam packed with The Voice, Face Off, Below Deck, and many other good shows in prime time; hence, too much competition. Friday’s, however, are a different story. Thank Fox for the only good show on. I hope Utopia continues!
