The stars of Showtime’s Homeland are ready for Season 4 — and their closeups.

TVLine has an exclusive first look at a behind-the-scenes video airing Sunday, which finds most of the cast — Claire Danes, Mandy Patinkin and Nazanin Boniadi — getting into character at the official Season 4 photo shoot. (Before you freak out, Rupert Friend was unable to attend this shoot in New York; he was shot separately, hence his absence from the video.)

The stars also tease the group dynamic in Season 4 — premiering Oct. 5 at 9/8c — which includes a brief parting of ways.

“Everyone’s going in different directions,” Boniadi notes. “It’s going to be exciting to see where that goes.”

So they take the best character (and actor) out of the show, that was the star, the lead character, the “omg this actor & character is why the show is so good!” out…and now the star/lead is the character that is widely despised/disliked? A unstable neurotic constantly crying female character is now the shoulders this show sits on? $10 this season has a big drop off in viewership with Damian Lewis gone and i bet it becomes the point at which the execs at showtime start talking cancellation/wrapping it up with one more season.

Lewis was not the star of the show. He did very well in his supporting show, but the show from conception to finale of each season has always been about Carrie.

Claire Danes is the actor who has won two consecutive Emmy (and Golden Globes and SAG awards) for the show. Carrie has always been the lead character. Is she neurotic? Yes. Is she unstable? Absolutely. That’s why she’s interesting. She’s smart and has good instincts, but her condition makes it hard for people to trust her and hard for her to trust herself. I give the show a lot of credit for not feeling the need to make her “likable” all the time.

Brody on the other hand was an interesting character for about two seasons. In the first season we saw him readjust to his old life while simultaneously planning an act or terror only to find that his old life won’t let him carry through. In season two we saw him as a double (and sometimes triple) agent, trying to play both sides. But the character had reached a natural stopping point. Showtime execs made a mistake by insisting he be kept around for a third season, because the writers didn’t know what to do with him. They focused on his family in his absence which slowed down the action considerably. Then it was just a matter of getting to a place where they could write him off the show. That’s not to say Damien Lewis wasn’t great. He was. But his character was only intended to last for so long.

Carrie is the character with more staying power because we can see trying to function and find her way in different situations. That’s always a challenge because she is unstable,

Love this.. I cant wait for the new season. Will we get a separate vid with Rupert? I love him and Quinn. (I was hoping we’d get some Claire/Rupert shots) oh well.

  3. Karen says:

Ohhh and hoping to see some Quinn x Carrie action this season! Kicking ass and hopefully making out on the side ;)

  4. Tran says:

Carrie & Saul are still the best dynamic duo on Homeland since the very beginning. Season Four will definitely rebound from a disappointing third season (RIP Nicholas Brody) and we will never going to see the last of the Brody family ever again especially little miss annoying Dana. Really hope Virgil & Max may come back as well or are they?

  5. alice says:

I’d like to see Brody come back without a broken neck. No broken neck, still alive. I didn’t see it break. bring him back please.

  6. Sabrina says:

Really looking forward to season 4.

  7. FreeRyde says:

    More Quinn please!
