Ratings: Big Brother Returns Up, Taxi Brooklyn Fares OK, SYTYCD Dips

Big Brother Premiere Ratings

CBS’ Big Brother still has some ratings muscle, returning on Wednesday night to 6.6 million total viewers and a 2.3 rating — adding a few eyeballs plus a tenth in the demo versus its year-ago Aaryn Nation premiere and leading the night on both counts.

Wednesday’s other premiere, NBC’s Taxi Brooklyn, drew 5.4 mil and a 1.0 leading out of an AGT rerun (6.2 mil/1.3), topping the 10 o’clock hour though falling shy of Camp‘s debut rating in the time slot last July (5.2 mil/1.5).

Elsewhere, Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance (4.4 mil/1.5) dipped 17 percent and two tenths week-to-week, while ABC’s Motive (3.5 mil/0.7) dropped 25 and 30 percent.

For somebody who allegedly wanted to “spend time with her family”, Chyler Leigh seems busy – Taxi Brooklyn plus Holding Patterns.

The reasons given for the exit from GA is looking more and more like PR gobbledegook

    • Danyelle says:

For one, Holding Patterns never happened. and two that’s what one show in how many years? Conspiracy theory much LOL

    • Coal says:

Honestly were you expecting her to stay on GA for the rest of her life ? She was there for 5 seasons close to a 100 episodes, it was time for her to try new projects. These people are actors, they need to be creatively stimulated and also protect their brand. People who stay on shows longer realise that they probably won’t find good offers after playing one character for so long so they might as well milk it for all its got.

  2. Tricia says:

Did anyone else think Taxi Brooklyn looked like a fake show at first? The first few times I saw the promo I kept expecting it to end with the actors running into appliances.

And yet, people watched it. Welcome to summer programming.

    • HAP says:

Is there going to be a poll on how this show fared?

    • Grey says:

I don’t know about it lookin fake but it sure “borrowed” a lot of elements from other shows. I know it’s almost impossible to be totally original – whether it’s stage, movie, or TV bascially the same stories are being told over and over again just with slightly new twists or POVs – but this thing ripping stuff left and right. And it felt sooooo long. At one point I looked at the clock and only 37 minutes had passed. It felt like it had been on for 90 at that point! I know it’s a summer burn-off but I was expecting it to be a little more different and quicky than the rest of the pack. Oh well. Just frees up more time for me to bindge watch other stuff. :D

  3. Boiler says:

Such a great commentary on our society that 6+ million think Big Brother is a show worth watching. No wonder we get crap on TV

    • James says:

It’s a worldwide phenomenon. There are at least 4 Big Brothers shows airing currently, with the one in Australia starting very soon this August. Denmark, South Africa, Vietnam and Canada just finished airing theirs while Big Brother Africa will also start up soon.

  4. Anne says:

Tonight’s Big Brother introduces raging racist and homophobe Caleb who is already getting press for his nasty online comments. This means the ratings will probably go up further, sadly.

  5. Tiffany says:

I like Taxi Brooklyn. Hope they keep it

  6. Gerri says:

So far other than Paola it is not an off putting group in the BB house. That right there should help the ratings, and it doesn’t hurt that this has got to be one of the more attractive group of houseguests in recent years.
