Game of Thrones Reigns Over Sopranos as Most Popular HBO Series

HBO has crowned a new king.

Game of Thrones has officially surpassed The Sopranos as the network’s most watched series, the premium cabler announced Thursday.

According to a statement released by the network, new episodes of Thrones pull in an audience of 18.4 million viewers, besting a previous record set by The Sopranos‘ 2002 season, which had an average gross audience of 18.2 million viewers per episode.

Additionally, the fantasy series’s third season averaged 14.4 million viewers per episode.

The penultimate episode of Thrones‘ fourth season airs Sunday at 9/8c.

    Sopranos had two really uninteresting seasons in its run. Can’t see that happening w GOT. However at the pace GOT is going and the amount of storylines going I can’t see them tying this show up in no less than 8 seasons.
