(Liam McIntyre assumed the lead in Season 2.)

  1. M says:

Should I assume they’ll be heavily edited?

  2. The Beach says:

Wow, those episodes will be whittled down to about 30 minutes once the censors get through with it.

  3. Katie_Mead says:

If they even censored the recent Bitten for the few nude and/or “explicit” scenes in each episode, just how butchered will Spartacus be?
And hey! While not as off-topic as “unscripted” wrestling, this is still nowhere near the scifi that should be on SyFy. New name change … SyFyte: home of a little SF&F and a lot of fighting?

    • Ally Oop says:

Was Bitten censored in a the States? I would have almost preferred that. The nudity was a but overdone and unnecessary on the show. I’m not a prude but sometimes the show ventured into the soft porn category.

    • Canadian shows like Bitten are still quite restrained. Bitten had half a dozen bare butts and a couple of non-explict sex scenes using a body double for Vanedervoort. British shows contained way more nudity than that 20 years ago, as did Aussie soaps 40 years ago.

Seeing the picture of Whitfield… what a feeling of sadness. As much as I appreciate and respect Liam McIntyre’s challenge in stepping into the role, and as good as Gods of the Arena was given the circumstances under which it was made, the loss of Andy really was such a blow to the show that it never properly recovered. Combined with the recasting of some of the other parts that happened and the fact that the show never had as complex and interesting a “villain” as John Hannah’s Batiatus (with no disrespect intended to Lucy Lawless, who had an amazing character arc but whose storyline seemed disconnected during season 2), the latter seasons were very much a letdown. The true tragedy of Spartacus was the loss of Whitfield right as he’d had his true breakout role.

    • The Beach says:

I agree with everything you said, especially about Batiatus. What a great villain! The show was never as good without him.

    • Pix says:

I disagree, while the show needed some time to find its footing again (I almost stopped watching after only the first episode of Vengeance), once it did, to me it went back to being one of the best shows on TV. The last few episodes of the last season were absolute pieces of art, and the finale was hands down my favourite series finale of all time.

Having said that – every time I see Andy Whitfield’s photo I get really sad, too. He’ll never not be missed.

  5. Ava says:

Great series but SyFy will have to make so many edits that it will pale in comprison to the original. Glad I saw the full airing on Starz.

    • JASon says:

Wait a second. Nudity? LAura vandervoot is in that show right? Any chance all men’s prayers have been answered?

  6. Hmm says:

I miss this show so much. I was so excited to hear this until I remembered that this will get censored like mad. Wahhhhh.

  7. Ram510 says:

Why would they even bother? No one is going to watch a heavily censored Spartacus, just like no one watched a heavily censored Entourage

  8. qj201 says:

    Digital Loin Cloths and Bras!
wonder if they shot two versions of scenes like SATC did?

  9. Steve F. says:

Great Jupiter’s – oh wait, this is going to be on SyFy… um, rooster?

  10. The Carpooler says:

    Steve F, awesome comment!!
We, too, watched the uncut via Amazon streaming. Incredible series. Though edited I will still enjoy being able to catch them now and again as I channel surf. Related note, I met Manu Bennett at ComiCon last month. What an incredibly nice person. Very polite and friendly. He chuckled at my 10 year son, asking if HE watched Spartacus.

    • Steve F. says:

Thanks! I was at the final Spartacus panel at SDCC a couple of years ago. What could’ve been a maudlin tribute to Andy Whitfield and the final season of the show turned out to be one of the best panels I attended that year. Funny, irreverent (Manu Bennett was making rude hand gestures as a joke, and when the panelists were reminded of their language, they responded with, “They’re old enough to watch the show, they don’t care!”), and at one point Manu did a part of his farewell haka for departing cast members… and nearly took off his shirt, causing the ladies to scream, and more than a few of us guys to get our butts back to the gym!

Plus, near the end of the panel, Steven De Souza, Liam McIntyre, and Manu Bennett (the panelists) were not just surprised by Lucy Lawless, but almost the entire cast of Spartacus: Vengeance. And DAMN, Katrina Law was HOT.

      • The Carpooler says:

Sweet. Be honest, every woman on that show is beautiful. :)
Is there a video of Manu’s haka sonewhere?
Great stories from the panel. It’s nice to see their personality/ies.

  11. BMF says:

    Jupiter’s Couch!

  12. whynot says:

No nudity?? WHAT’S THE POINT! :)

  13. fatalsin says:

This is gonna be so badly butchered on Syfy

  14. Paula Jackson says:

I got the WHOLE series for Christmas, from my husband! I can watch it ANYTME without being censored. I also LOVED ASHER, as a villain!

  15. TL says:

Wait…how do you do Gladiator Porn on SyFy? I think I’ll stick with the DVDs.

  16. James D says:

Um what? how is SyFy going to re-run a decidedly non family oriented drama filled with gore and nudity. What an odd idea.

  17. Teagan says:

I watched the first episode on SYFY mind you I never watched the show before hand a lot of friend told me but I didn’t watch. It was pretty good the sexy parts were good too. At one point I was like can they show this on tv. lol But I liked it. I agree Bitten showed a lot of ass just for the sake of showing ass.
