Exclusive Mentalist Season Finale First Look: Jane Gets Devastating News About Lisbon

Denial can be a powerful — and occasionally useful — tool, but in TVLine’s exclusive first look at Sunday’s Mentalist season finale (CBS, 10/9c), it’s time for Jane to finally face the facts: He could be losing Lisbon forever.

“From what I heard, it’s a done deal,” Cho tells Jane about Lisbon’s impending move. “She put in her transfer papers. She starts work at the D.C. office next month. She’s leaving Austin in a week, next Friday.”

Jane and Cho are then presented with the corpse of a college student, but who has time to solve crimes when Lisbon might be leaving town? Talk about a real crisis!

  1. CBWBDK1 says:

I’m excited to see what happens! I hope it’s a happy ending for jane and lisbon.

    • Rubeye says:

I do hope the “show” will continue several seasons more.

    • Judi Rosen says:

Jane and Lisbon are more then a team who solve crimes, they really are underneath it all, the right two people for each other. He’s intuitive and has fears, she’s all ahead and covers her feelings until someone like Jane can bring them out. What a pair. If the Mentalist is cancelled on Sunday nights, it spoils a great tri-fecta, starting with The Amazing Race in winter and Big Brother in Summer, then Good Wife for serious life, and finally crime and passion with Jane and Lis.

      • Carolee says:

I do not like The amazing Race,Big a Brother or The a Good Wife do therefore I will not watch that channel this summer.I will watch reruns of the Mentalist that I have on my PVR.I surely going to have a long summer without good shows to watch.

  2. I want Lisbon to stay with Jane!

  3. Tran says:

Really don’t know if CBS is planning a “final season” of The Mentalist now that its upcoming seventh season has been benched for mid-season.

  4. enri says:

Oh my gosh! Thanks Andy. So looking forward to the season finale on Sunday.

  5. Cynthia says:

    So excited about this episode!

  6. Thanks for sneak peek, Andy! Thank God Cho is… well, Cho lol, or he would have screamed “SHE IS REALLY LEAVING!”. Jesus Jane, it’s now or never! #TeamJane

    • Stacy says:

I absolutely love Cho. So few people can pull off a delivery like his, and he’s exceptionally natural at it.

  7. Hellenna says:

They should Hookup….axxxx mybabies….it’s our canon time:)))

  8. Eli says:

I’m kind of hoping that after the proposal she has already decided not to go, and the whole “she’s leaving” thing ends up being a con to get Jane to admit his feelings. I’d just love to see Lisbon pull one of his tricks on him.

  9. HP says:

OMG! I can’t wait until Sunday! Thanks for the sneak peek!

  10. Zepp OnAir says:

This bla-bla-bla “The Lisbon should go look for other opportunities in his career” would be true if she had a real life. But it is the Mentalist therefore is Indissociable, this dynamic duo Jane & Lisbon. And do not even want to think about it more.

  11. Silvia says:

Can’t waaaiiit!!! Thank you for the sneak peek!!!

  12. grissom says:

I am eagerly waiting for Sunday’s episode hope that we see Jane and Lisbon together at the end. Hope it is not one of those finale where the fans has to interpret the ending…. I will be totally disappointed if that happens…

  13. Bonnie Maynes says:

I’m so excited to see what happens. I wish the Mentalist was starting it’s seventh season in September. It’s the best show on TV.

  14. Bill says:

Is next season the final season?

  15. Laura C says:

Am hoping against hope that Jane & Lisbon DON’T get together. They have ZERO romantic charisma, they need to be with other people. I don’t care for Lisbon so I don’t care who she fades off into the sunset with, but Jane deserves better.

    • JoMarch says:

Thanks, Laura. I thought I was the only one that felt that way about Lisbon. I would go further and say I don’t think that actress has romantic charisma with anyone they’ve linked her with on the show. think she would be better suited if they had her be gay than have her romantic with Jane;.

  16. GildedRose says:

Jane needs to open his mouth and speak if he doesn’t want her to go. On the flipside, Lisbon shouldn’t be packing up and leaving with a guy if she’s in love with Jane. That’s not fair to the other guy, to herself, or Jane. Have a 5 minute adult conversation and solve the problem already.

    • yurie says:

Exactly… you got it totally right. This is what Patrick gets for being a tosser who can’t act on his feelings.

  17. P. Savastano says:

Somebody’s in denial. Ugh. So ready for Jane to do something. They should be together. Also, that look on his face when he hears.

  18. Tahonia says:

As long as Cho stays, Lisbon can head off anywhere with anyone. In fact Cho and Jayne could take off in the airstream and work their detective magic across the country. I’d watch that. I don’t like the FBI contingent, I’ve never been too fond of Lisbon. But Jayne is fun

  19. Caro says:

No! Jane and Lisbon need to be together! C’mon, Patrick – make your move!

  20. Barbara C says:

I hope Patrick Jane declares his feelings; Then it’s Lisbon’s choice. At the beginning of the season, Jane did miss Lizbon. Then, when they started working together again, she was back in his life and he didn’t have to say anything. It’s not like Jane is a simple commitment phobe. He lost a wife and a child and his heart was beyond broken. He was consumed by revenge. Jane was not in a place where he could heal or declare himself. Now, Lizbon’s planning to leave, Red John is dead, and Jane must face his feelings or move on. We’ll see.

  21. Jackie says:

Look. Jane and Lisbon have to wind up together or they won’t be able to solve crimes together in Season 7. It’s a done deal.

  22. Jane’s love for his wife and daughter “caused” their death, therefore it was totally natural he was unwilling to allow himself to fall in love with Lisbon. But the desire of the heart can’t be always controled – Jane’s already fallen for Lisbon and it’s time to admit it to himself and DO something about it. I hope he takes off his wedding ring!

  23. Attiie says:

The would not be the Mentalist if Jane and Lisbon are not together.

  24. Carolee says:

I am with Barbara C .I do like the two together. They work well as a team.I do hope Patrick declares his affection for Teresa. But writers have a way of recking love interest and leave us in limbo for the next season.I wish the writers did not do that.

  25. Jessie says:

Jane and Lisbon together? Never seen anything romantic with those two. Just emotional wishing. Who will be the aggressor?

  26. Tiger Lily says:

My only problem with Patrick getting involved with Lisbon is that she’s so often abusive to him – verbally, even physically (punching in the nose). We don’t hear a lot about abused men in relationships, but she strikes me as the classic abuser. She comes from a somewhat abusive childhood with an alcoholic father, she struggles with her own drinking issues, and she tends to lash out physically in anger. I think Jane should run for his life and find a woman capable of expressing the love he’s been needing, and appreciating all his weird and wonderful qualities. It wouldn’t hurt if she also was his intellectual equal!

  27. Becky says:

Hope the show remains on air for several seasons. Much happier now that the Red John storyline is over…..that was entirely too long and convoluted. Would like to see Jane and Lisbon together ….would like to see a stronger story line with Cho…and while I initially did not like the FBI contingent, I have grown to enjoy them during the last few episodes.

  28. phil says:

I would like to see Cristina (?), the psychic whom Red John convinced that she was dead and supposedly is in an asylum, come back cured and ready to get together again with Jane. I really liked.her in the two or three times she was on the show. She is definitely Jane’s intellectual equal. And a pretty good psychic to boot. Jane tried to get something going with her so she could be an antidote to Lisbon. The one thing I liked about Lisbon was that deer-in-the-headlights look she got whenever Jane blindsided her with his Mentalist shenanigans.

  29. Carolee says:

I really enjoyed the last show last night.Thank you writers. You did not disappoint me.I glad Patrick declared his love.I could see Teresa really loved him but wanted Patrick to admit he loved him.Thank you I went yo bed happy.

  30. LHP says:

Yup…from the beginning in the First Season, I knew they were connected. Jane has been hurt in the past, but is always the genleman; something Lisbon has needed in her life. Jane hasn’t jumped in until now, because he loved his previous loving wife and, of course, his sweet daughter, and needed to grieve before beginning a new relationship. He’s also had other issues to work through from his rough past. Jane and Lisbon have always been there for each other, and have a friendship which helps future couples lead happy lives together. I would enjoy seeing a small, quiet wedding, with Cho as the best man, and Grace as bridesmaid, end off the series, as they later then jump into Jane’s Citron, and drive off down the coast, as the sun rises or sets. I’ve enjoyed all the characters in this awesome, but sometimes depressing, series. Time to put it to rest with an unusual, happy, peaceful, ending! Good day all…

  31. pam says:

Okay, I really need a life, but this was the greatest season finale to date. I am a hopeless romantic and I just could not have watched next season or even re-runs if this hadn’t ended so well. Thank you, writers, producers, and actors!! Jane and Lisbon obviously belong together!

  32. Carolee says:

I am glad the director ended the show and series for the year with Patrick and Teresa admitting they love each other.I am sure that was what all the fans wanted.Thank You even my husband was happy.

  33. Toni says:

I loved the season finale. I cried and had recorded it to watch it over again. The best love story since Romeo and Juliet. It was beautiful. Can’t wait til next season.

  34. Sammy says:

Awesome Mentalist Finale – Great way to reward the fans. I will definitely be watching season 7 from the season opener. It will be interesting how the writers proceed. Other shows should take notes.

    • betty says:

Enjoyed the finale!!!!! Bummed out about the mid season start decision but I suppose it is better than having the episodes interrupted by football. Dvr recording last season was such a hassle.

  35. Jerry says:

Love the Mentalist cast and how they work together. The humor is a nice touch. Yes, let Lisbon and Jane get together. There are plenty of stories for them. So glad they kept the cast when the story line changed. I do wish the time would change because of game delays. Keep up the great entertainment.
