FRIENDS WITH BETTER LIVESCBS’ first Monday sans How I Met Your Mother proved to be a mixed bag, with Two Broke Girls holding steady and Friends With Better Lives losing some steam.

Broke Girls, making its 8/7c time-period debut with a guest appearance by Lindsay Lohan, averaged 7.2 million viewers and a 2.2 rating in 18-49 — on par with its most recent original episode (but down considerably from HIMYM’s average, natch). FWBL followed with a lackluster 5.7 million viewers and a 1.8 demo rating, down 30 percent from its HIMYM-boosted premiere two weeks ago.

Elsewhere on Monday: CBS’ Mom closed out its rookie season with 6.7 million viewers and a 1.9 in 18-49, down 13 percent from its last original outing; NBC’s The Voice fell to a cycle-low 3.3 demo rating, but it remained the night’s top young-adult draw (Dancing With the Stars was No. 1 in viewers with 14.2 million); and Fox’s Bones (5.7 million, 1.4) slipped 13 percent.

Not to be snarky, but this was the 2nd Monday sans HIMYM.

    • Renz says:

Last week was the NCAA finals so I don’t think they’re really counting it. This week was the first week of original programming sans HIMYM.

  2. What about Warehouse13???

    • Meg says:

Cable ratings generally come in much later than network ratings, sometimes up to a full day later. You could always try checking TVByTheNumbers if they don’t include the Warehouse 13 ratings at a later time.

    What about The Following?

Castle’s repeat of the “Diciple” episode did really well last week.. How did “The Good, The Bad and The Baby” do?

I was awaiting these numbers for the post-HIMYM CBS comedies. Start off the night with a 7.2/2.2 [although those numbers will grow once DVR+ numbers come in] for 2Broke, and it’s down hill from there. Can CBS maintain a night of comedies on Monday with numbers like 7.2/2.2, 5.7/1.8 and 6.7/1.9? Come on CBS, what about the demo?

The goal (I assume) is to try to get these current Monday comedies at or near the 3.0 demo mark [HIMYM and TBBT territory]. How long before that goal is adjusted to trying to get these CBS Monday night comedies up to the 2.0 demo mark? An entire night of 2.0 demo comedies? That’s what NBC has been trying to do for years now on Thursday nights – that doesn’t work.

Somewhere along the way (and we’ll see soon how well ‘the Millers’ does at the 9pm slot on Thursday next winter), these comedies need to ‘step-up’ and become ‘tent pole’ series at 8 and 9pm, and allow the next set of pilots/shows to occupy the hammock positions at 8:30 and 9:30. Right now, I don’t see that happening at CBS. That’s a problem for them, whether they now realize that or not. That problem is fast approaching.

Once 2.5 Men wraps up their short season next winter (post Thursday night football), ‘the Millers’ becomes crucial to CBS on Thursday nights and M&M and 2Broke become crucial on Mondays. If ‘Millers’ starts producing ‘2Broke Girls’ like numbers [7.6/2.5], look out CBS. Running two nights of comedies that produce 7.5/2.5 to 6.5/1/9 viewers/demo ratings will not work. Because once you start accepting those numbers, before you know if, you’re getting comedies producing 5.9/1.5 numbers. It can happen – and then you’re out of the comedy/sitcom business. Ask NBC.

CW shows? How did Starcrossed do?

    • luvmypup says:

unfortunately Starcrossed was a 3 and dropped to it’s lowest number of viewers. I really hate that because it is so good and the last few episodes have been great. I hope it goes back up next week.

All the while I was watching Friends With Better Lives, I kept thinking that the show ought to be better. With that cast, it really should. For me, the only one I have a quibble with is Zoe Lister-Jones. She’s carrying the show.
