Reality Check: We Pick Our Top 3 on Idol! But Will the Season 13 Crown Be Won by Default? Plus: A Lion Roars on The Voice!

The quest for American Idol‘s Season 13 crown is down to nine contestants, but there are times when it seems like nobody really wants to inherit Candice Glover’s bejeweled headpiece.

On this week’s Reality Check, my co-host Melinda Doolittle and I talk about the troubling lack of “Moments-Moments” (™ Mariah) over the past five weeks — and the fact that the current crop of singers are operating as if they’re playing the same bars and coffeehouses of their pre-Idol careers, rather than choosing bold new material to excite a national TV audience.

What’s more, Melinda and I each reveal our personal Top 3 contestants — based on overall body of work — weigh in on a quartet of Top 10 Week performances (by Jessica, Sam, Majesty and Caleb) that created discord among the judges, and touch briefly (so as to not get contaminated) on J.Lo’s new tune “I Luh Ya Papi.”

All that, plus a brief check in on the current (underwhelming) season of NBC’s The Voice — and the two women who are making it worth our while to tune in.

Comments are monitored, so don’t go off topic, don’t frakkin’ curse and don’t bore us with how much your coworker’s sister-in-law makes per hour. Talk smart about TV!
