Dan Bucatinsky — who since Season 1 of ABC’s D.C.-based drama has played do-right, put-upon journo James Novak — will play dad to Happy Endings alum Casey Wilson on NBC’s Marry Me comedy pilot, says The Hollywood Reporter.

Written and executive-produced by Happy Endings‘ David Caspe, the single-camera Marry Me focuses on the challenges encountered by lovebirds Annie and Jake (Wilson and Party Down‘s Ken Marino) after they decide to get engaged.

Bucatinsky’s new gig, which would be a recurring one if Marry Me goes to series, will also find him playing husband to Saturday Night Live alum Tim Meadows.

  1. Babygate says:

Isn’t he too young to play this?

  2. Kaycee says:

He’s nearly 50 but looks a lot younger! – either way, good choice of casting.

  3. love says:

    but he looks so young

  4. Joska says:

Andy Richter (whos even younger than Bucatinsky) also played her dad on Happy Endings. But on there they said he was a teenage dad in that case.

this kinda seems to fit that blind item from ages about about a major show killing off a star so he can star in a new series and it would be revealed the day after he died. (I know it’s not, because Dan Bucatinsky wasn’t in a leading role) But they never did reveal what series Damian Lewis is starring in next.

    • PrincessTi says:

It actually was revealed and it wasn’t Damian Lewis.

      • Eric says:

It was revealed to be Ron Perlman, starring in the new Amazon series Hand of God or whatever it’s called, even though I think they announced it a little while after his onscreen death.

Sad to see Dan Bucatinsky’s character bit the dust on SCANDAL last night. :-(

  7. DeBacobi says:

I like the sounds of this show the more I hear about it. I loved Happy Endings, so hearing that same crew is behind this is enough to make me want to watch it. But the cast is all people I really like too. Hope NBC picks this up.

  8. dude says:

Did he have her when he was 10?

    • Beewxzre says:

I think it could still work, just age Dan up a few years (about 50 or 51) and age Casey down a few years (about 29 or 30) and it’s possible he could’ve just been a young dad with a approx 20 year age diff, would’ve be THAT FAR of a stretch from the real life 15 year difference between them. Tim Meadows is playing the other dad and he’s 53, so I assume Dan’s character is supposed to be at least 50 anyway.

    James lives!!!!!

  10. Jooshua says:

They are gay.. they don’t have to be her biological parents.. 48-25 years is 23.. 53-25 years is 28.. 33-25 years is 8.. They easily could have adopted her at age 8 when they were 28 and 23..

Unless it has been said somewhere that Dan Bucatinsky is her biological father.
