• Frank’s eldest daughter Sammi is sticking around on Shameless. The Showtime drama has promoted Emily Bergl to series regular for the upcoming fifth season, our sister site Deadline reports.

• Christopher McDonald (Boardwalk Empire, Harry’s Law) and Trevor Donovan (90210) have joined the cast of History’s Texas Revolution miniseries Texas Rising, reports Deadline. McDonald will play a grizzled, tough taskmaster of the ranging company, while Donovan is a handsome, wise-ass, expert horseman whose chivalry and equestrian skills are matched only by his gun-fighting prowess.

American Idol winner Candice Glover will star in Hallmark Channel’s original movie Northpole, the network announced on Facebook. The Idol champ will portray a reporter who, with the help of her son and his teacher, attempts to recapture the joy of the holiday season to save Christmas after the world has begun to lose faith.

• Sister channels BET and Centric will simulcast the live Season 3 premiere of TV Land’s The Soul Man on March 26.
