Make room on the DVR: This weekend, you’ve got Lena Dunham hosting Saturday Night Live, season finales for True Detective and Looking, the debuts of Cosmos, Resurrection and Lindsay and the returns of Once Upon a Time, Good Wife and other series… just to name a few options. As a supplement to TVLine’s original features (linked within), here are 20 programs to keep on your radar.
SATURDAY, MARCH 8
8 pm The Trip to Bountiful (Lifetime) | When her son and daughter-in-law forbid her to leave the house, Carrie Watts (acting vet Cicely Tyson) makes an escape to the local bus station to visit her hometown of Bountiful. Blair Underwood (L.A. Law) and Vanessa Williams (Ugly Betty) also star.
9 pm Black Sails (Starz) | Flint tells Gates the truth, and Randall puts Silver in a bind.
10 pm Freestyle Love Supreme (Pivot) | From New York City, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Thomas Kail (of Broadway’s In the Heights) collaborate with other artists for a hip-hop improv show.
10:15 pm The Graham Norton Show (BBC America) | Season finale: Graham’s guests include Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul (well, count me in!), supermodel Naomi Campbell and singer Ellie Goulding.
11:30 pm Saturday Night Live (NBC) | Lena Dunham hosts, with musical guest The National.
SUNDAY, MARCH 9
7 pm Animation Domination (Fox) | Bob’s Burgers leads things off in a new time slot (and a guest voice from Parks and Rec’s Aziz Ansari), followed by a double dose of The Simpsons and then Family Guy (where Peter gets a bit too cozy with a family friend voiced by the Lauren Bacall).
8 pm Once Upon a Time (ABC) | Midseason premiere: While Hook attempts to jog Emma’s memory, the Charmings, Regina et al take stock of today’s Enchanted Forest. (Note: The recap special Wicked is Coming airs at 7 pm.) (Read our in-depth preview.)
9 pm Cosmos (Fox) | Series premiere: Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson hosts this reboot of Carl Sagan’s original 1980 series, exploring the vastness of our universe.
9 pm Resurrection (ABC) | Series premiere: The town of Arcadia, Mo. is shocked when deceased loved ones suddenly come back to life (in a nice, non-zombie sort of way). Cast includes Omar Epps (House), Kurtwood Smith (That ’70s Show) and Frances Fisher (Titanic).
9 pm The Good Wife (CBS) | Spring premiere: Florrick/Agos and LG fight to secure Lemond Bishop as a client after he is arrested on a drug-related charge. (P.S. Any idea what the show’s Most Shocking Moment Ever might be?)
9 pm The Walking Dead (AMC) | One group finds a shelter, while another has a realization about protection (…and I’m no closer to knowing what this episode is about.)
9 pm True Detective (HBO) | Season finale: An overlooked detail provides Hart and Cohle with an important new lead in their case. (Not yet renewed — officially, at least.)
10 pm Revenge (ABC) | New time slot alert! Midseason premiere: While Emily continues to be plagued by mysterious blackouts, Victoria confronts two ghosts from her past.
10 pm Lindsay (OWN) | Series premiere: After completing her sixth stint in rehab, starlet Lindsay Lohan moves to New York to work on her sobriety and rebuild her once promising career. But all we really want is Mean Girls 2, right? (Watch a sneak peek.)
10 pm The Mentalist (CBS) | Spring premiere: When a U.S. attorney is found dead in Mexico, Jane’s investigation leads him to join a separatist commune. (Watch a sneak peek, check out Jane’s new digs.)
10 pm Online Dating Rituals of the American Male (Bravo) | Ah, just when I thought Lindsay was the guiltiest pleasure I could watch this weekend. This new reality series follows two men each week as they hunt for their ideal partner via dating sites.
10:30 pm Looking (HBO) | Season finale: Patrick looks to mend fences after Richie’s abrupt exit, and Frank tells Agustin what he really thinks about their relationship and his art. (Yep, renewed.)
