It's Official: DWTS Alum Erin Andrews to Replace Brooke Burke-Charvet as Co-Host

DWTS Erin Andrews New HostAt the very least, she’s got experience interviewing people for a living.

Fox Sports reporter Erin Andrews, who finished third on Season 10 of Dancing With the Stars, will replace recently ousted Brooke Burke-Charvet next month as co-host of ABC’s ballroom-dancing competition, ABC confirmed on Monday.

Andrews will work opposite Tom Bergeron, who took home the Emmy for Outstanding Host for a Reality or Reality-Competition Program in 2012. UPDATE: The new Dancing stars will be revealed March 4 on Good Morning America, ahead of the Season 18 premiere on March 17.

Burke-Charvet told E! Online on Friday that she understood “the need for change considering the position of the show at this juncture” — a seeming nod to DWTS‘ declining ratings and buzz.

Burke-Charvet also addressed her ouster on Twitter on Friday:

A former model, Burke-Charvet first appeared on DWTS as a contestant — and eventual winner — of Season 7, and then went on to cohost with Bergeron Seasons 10 through 17. In that capacity, she succeeded Samantha Harris (who replaced Lisa Canning starting with Season 2).

    Not much of a surprise.

  2. Riana says:

She’s almost as busy as Seacrest

  3. TheFactsR says:

Your poll should have said who thinks Erin Andrews should be on DWTS !

DWTS is on its last hope and it FAILED again!

What a shame Conrad Green has no idea how to save his show!

  4. Linda says:

Unless they change the formula back by having the ‘interviews’ back/two days, then there really shouldn’t be a need for her.

    • TheFactsR says:

EXACTLY! The executives of DWTS are ignorant and that is why the ship is sinking! The concept of the show is GREAT they just do not know how to run it! A new show runner would be able to pull it out of the gutter.

Now IF/when The Big Bang Theory joins Monday nights toooo then DWTS will hit the gutter and burn out.

      • S. says:

What exactly do you expect the producers to do? Wave a magic wand? Try extra hard to have music play while celebs dance around to it? It’s pretty much the same formula as it’s always been. Unless you get bigger stars, there’s really not much change you can expect. This is an old show. That’s why it’s “sinking.” How would you run it, dear? What changes? They’ve already tried adding dance styles. I personally found Brooke off putting and couldn’t stand to watch her interviews. Glad she’s gone. I feel bad for the loss of the band but the karaoke versions of hits that they didn’t want to pay the rights for were just so cheesy. SYTYCD pays for the actual tracks. No reason you couldn’t do that on DWTS from time to time. Still bring in live music but not for every performance.

    • Brian says:

That was my thought. In a one night format, Tom could have probably handled it solo, with the celebs next to the judges. Without the celebriquarium in play, Brooke (or anyone else) really isn’t necessary.

    • Kim R says:

My thoughts exactly. In the poll there should have been the “no co-host necessary” option. :)

    • i agree . and i wish they would do a season where there would be NO PROFESSIONAL dancers as contestants .i.e. ice dancers , people from glee , high school musical , etc. and go back to how ballroom competitions are really done . go old school . len has said it many times and tony has the most experience since he retired as latin champion . they are pulling at straws !!

  5. I thought for sure Brooke wasn’t fired because she was bad at her job (though she kinda was), but because her job as co-host was simply unnecessary with the elimination of the sky box and the contestants being scored while still on the dance floor.

It seems to me, though, that the more viable explanation here is that TPTB are trying to spark some controversy and early buzz since the new cast looks to be super BLAH and boring. At least that’s what seems to be the case, if the early rumors are true.

  6. Rob says:

They have to get Richard Sherman of the Seattle Seahawks as a contestant now.

  7. Matt M. says:

Pretty big for the show. Andrews is great. Will work great with Bergeron.

  8. A says:

    I like this!

  9. Tran 2.0 says:

    Erin Andrews is H-O-T!! :-)

  10. Lorie says:

    Sounds good to me.

  11. Daniel says:

A Cabbage Patch doll would be an upgrade. Let’s hope for the best.

  12. Kida says:

I thought they fired Brooke because of budget cuts and it would be only Tom hosting. That’s the ONLY valid reason for letting her go. I’m so sad now.

  13. Britt says:

I don’t think they need another co-host. Just use Tom and keep it moving!!

    • Janet says:

This times a thousand! Thank you for saying it! :)

    • Maybe it's time to begin to wrap things up ... says:

Thank you – my thoughts exactly. Will there really be enough time and things to do for EA to make something of this new job? At this point, the dancers like Derick and Cheryl know the ins-and-outs of this show was well as anyone (other than Tom). Why not just have some of the dancers begin to interview each other? Would add something to the show.

I mean, really, how much interview information is that critical to this show at this point? What questions do we need answers to at this point? “How to do you feel?” “How’s your leg holding up?” “Are you guys ready for the final dance?” “Do you want the viewers to call in and vote?” How much more can EA add to this list of questions?

    • BJH says:

Agree – Tom is great and could handle it without any help.

  14. Mika02 says:

Such a stupid decision just get rid of the second eye candy interviewer. If you want younger audience bring in younger judges.

    • Huh? The show is about people ballroom dancing. Last time I checked the youngins ain’t hanging out in da club doing the waltz? Trying to get in a younger audience to watch hasbeens doing old timey dancing is like trying to market metamusil to teens: not gonna happen.

      • Goodbyes are always hard, but they have to come eventually says:

^This. Too late to try to attract large portions of the younger audience. That boat sailed after ‘season 5’ +/-. It’s time for ABC to start considering what the Monday night lineup will look like in the post-DWTS era.

  15. gcsassoc says:

I already had to mute my TV to avoid her annoying voice on NFL games!!! She does not fit well on this show at ALL!!!!!!!! And getting rid of Harold Wheeler???? This show is done, and I am done watching!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  16. Blacklister No.134 says:

Why is it that when they are looking for a younger demo they always get rid of the younger female and never fire the much older male judge? What makes everyone believe that females do not want eye candy as well? If demo is so important in the industry we might as well make sure both males and females get the eye candy not just the men.

  17. J.Norman says:

I give it 2 months before fans start complaining about Erin Andrews, just like they did with Brooke Burke and before her Samantha Harris.

    • CMarie says:

I’m complaining about her now. Bad move DWTS, bad move.

      • Linda Carpenter says:

I agree with the army of dissatisfied viewers who think that it was a huge mistake in replacing Brooke Burke with Erin Andrews. WHAT WERE YOU THINKING ABC?? Erin Andrews has the most annoying voice in all of broadcasting. To me…her voice is like fingernails on a chalkboard. I have never cared for her persona either…in her day job; in her stalkling incident; or when she was a contestant on DWTS. Big mistake by ABC.
And what was up with getting rid of Harold Weaver? He was great with his band and his vocalists. And while I’m complaining…I hate the new twist they are going to throw at the pros and the stars. I think it is going to be disasterous for both the pros and the stars. I am quickly losing interest in this show. I don’t think I will have it on automatic record any more.

  18. Amie says:

At least Erin Andrews appears to have a brain. I don’t think they need a co-host, and if they were going to use a former contestant, I would’ve been all over Drew Lachey or Scary Spice, both of whom have personality for days. But using someone with reporter experience who had a decent run on the show isn’t a bad idea, either. I thought Samantha Harris was horrible and no one could be worse till we got Bwak Bwak. If there is a thought anywhere between Brooke Burke’s ears, she has suppressed it for DWTS. If Samantha Harris was like a piece of cheap Christmas tinsel, Bwak Bwak has been fingernails on a chalkboard.

  19. Ralph says:

The show works when the viewers come to care about the celebrities. So the question is can Erin help views care about the contestants who do not arrive with a built-in fan base?

What she can’t do is repair the dysfunctional casting process which has become as old and tired as Bruno antics. The question becomes, Why can’t they attract a more balanced cast? I think its because they look at it the wrong way. Instead of recruiting B listers on their way to D, they should consider more D listers on the way to B. Give views contestants they don’t know but might like to, rather than “stars” like Amber Riley who’s career has flat-lined despite bringing a ready-made fan base.

    No risk equals no reward

  20. kake says:

Don’t need either one with the new one night format. Could have saved some $.

  21. annonymous says:

I loved Brooke. She fit in at the beginning and was a natural. Watch what you’re changing. The fans make and break the show.

  22. Bella says:

Brooke Charvest was not a nice gal…..not friendly, really into herself, DWTS needs a co-host that is funny, pleasant and just plain nice. Kelly Pickler would have been amazing as a Co-Host….she is a delight. Good riddance to Ms. Charvest………just another narcisstic actor who has absolutely not charisma.

  23. Ernest Keller says:

The. Present show format doesn’t give any co-hosts much of a chance. However, it is good to see Maks back as a pro. My one main question is why do the keep bringing Julianne back for guest spots and as a guest judge?
