Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson's Football-Themed Comedy Ballers Snags Series at HBO

Dwayne Johnson BallersHBO is getting a piece of The Rock.

The pay cabler has given a series order to Ballers, a half-hour comedy produced by and starring Dwayne Johnson, Deadline reports.

Ballers, which counts Johnson’s Pain & Gain co-star Mark Wahlberg among its EPs, centers on a group of former and current football stars (Johnson plays one of the retired players).

The cast also includes Omar Benson Miller (CSI: Miami), John David Washington (son of Denzel) and Rob Corddry (Childrens Hospital).

      TV doesn’t do that anymore. Halle Berry and Julia Roberts are two people who are appearing in tv minis/movies this year. Glenn Close was on Damages. The days of “TV people” are long gone.
