Get More: News

Top of the Morning movieAnn Curry‘s national nightmare is heading to Lifetime.

The cabler is developing a made-for-TV movie about the behind-the-scenes drama that led to Curry’s very public firing from the Today show, TVLine has confirmed.

The pic, based on Brian Stelter’s book Top of the Morning: Inside the Cutthroat World of Morning TV, will also depict Good Morning America‘s rise to AM supremacy.

According to TVNewser, Liz Gateley and Tony DiSantos — the team behind Ke$ha: My Crazy Beautiful Life and My Life Is a Lifetime Movie — will exec-produce.

The project is in the very early stages, which means Gately and DiSantos have plenty of time to comb the comments section below for casting tips. So, what do you think? Who should play the Matt, Ann and Al?

    • Matt L should be played by Jerry Seinfeld. One arrogant a$$ portraying another.

      • Jerry Seinfeld still has too many ties to NBC to play this role in an unbiased manner. His sitcom, Seinfeld, has had every episode remastered in 16:9 high definition and is still being aired in syndication under NBC Universal’s syndication arm. Some people have suggested Rob Lowe to play Lauer. Rob Lowe is still under contract with NBC Universal and Saturday Night Live creator Lorne Michaels’ Broadway Video label to play Chris Traeger on Amy Poehler’s Parks and Recreation. So, Rob is still too close to NBC to play Matt Lauer in an unbiased manner. Plus, since NBC Universal was acquired by Roberts family owned Philadelphia, PA based Comcast Cable, they are known to be really strict when one of their own tries to put them in a bad light.

  • When NBC fired Ann Curry it was cring worthy TV.She really deserved better.
I doubt any famous actors will want to touch the lead rolls in this movie , NBC / Universal’s reach could damage a career.I can’t imagine NBC / Universal is happy about the movie.
The parts will probably go to lesser known actors.

  • I haven’t watched the Today show since that fiasco played out. The meanness and coldness was too much. Watch Good Morning America or the CBS Morning show now.

    Ann – Ming-Na Wen
Al – Kenan Thompson or Anthony Anderson
Matt – Josh Charles (even though I love him and can’t stand Lauer anymore)
