NBC Developing New Anne Heche Comedy

NBC and Anne Heche, whose most recent sitcom collaboration (the short-lived Save Me) crashed and burned, are giving it another go.

Per Deadline, Heche is developing a new untitled comedy series for the Peacock Net that would find her playing the sales manager at a department store’s beauty counter who questions everything about love and relationships.

Heche — who is currently recurring on The Michael J. Fox Show — will co-write the pilot script with her former Hung colleague, writer-producer Colette Burson.

Well, I hope it works for her so they can get her off the MJF show. Love the show, but not her character. Well, her and the sister both.

  2. Shaun says:

She’s not so great an actress

  3. dude says:

NBC stop trying to make Heche happen, she’s not going to happen!

  4. Jack says:

If there’s any show I want to watch less than a show starring Anne Heche about her special telepathic powers, it’s a show starring Anne Heche about a sales manager at a department store beauty counter who questions everything about love and relationships.

  5. Tina says:

I do not like her as an actress and would not watch any show.

  6. Huba Buba says:

So basically remake of briliant UK series Love Soup (with Tamsin Greig) : http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0443390/?ref_=nm_flmg_act_18

  7. didi says:

Vicky/Marley YES! She is fabulous. Love her.

  8. I really enjoyed Save Me. I’ll definitely check it out.

  9. Ann says:

    Loved “Men in Trees!”

  10. Jo says:

Does NBC’s head of development get a bonus for each show that fails? That is the only possible explanation for what’s been going on there lately.

  11. Britta Unfiltered says:

NBC seems to be laboring under the impression that Anne Heche is a very funny comedian, and a bankable one at that. I disagree with their thoughts on this.

  12. aplwrites says:

Her character was the only thing I liked about Save Me. Hope to see her find her niche with a show.

  13. DavidSask says:

Margaret Cho already did this show back in the day!!!

  14. Oh well, maybe the next series, or the one after that, or the one... says:

I hate to pile on here, but I have to agree with the other posts up-thread; NBC really needs to stop and think before giving out these development deals. Sometimes actors/ actresses are just born to play on television – they shine, magnetic. They can’t miss. And sometimes, no matter how good/or bad, some actors/actresses just cannot succeed in this medium – hard to know why, but life isn’t always fair.

Anne Heche (for better or worse, fair or not) is one of those talents who will not succeed in a staring hole in this television medium – this new development deal will not succeed, nor did Men In Trees, or Save Me, etc. NBC and AH can certainly keep trying – that is their choice and I respect that, but the end result will be the same. A supporting role for AH, yes, could work. Giving her a starring role in a tv show – I’m sorry, it won’t work.

  15. Ashley says:

    First and only question: Why?

  16. sabrina says:

I think that the premise of this series sounds good, but Anne Heche is not a good fit for the lead on the show. She would probably be best for a supporting role as she is not that likeable.

  17. Ann says:

Save Me was actually a pretty decent show and had plenty of room to grow. It’s sad that NBC chose to burn it off during the dead tv period in the summer when hardly anyone was watching.

  18. Bella says:

She’s an excellent actress. If the writing is good, I’ll be watching.

  19. MrTemecula says:

This is why minorities get mad. How many bites at the apple does Heche get before any other minority gets a shot. It should be anybody: African-American, Latino, Lesbian, disabled (no law against two comedies featuring disabled performers), Asian, etc. Lets let other Americans bore and fail us.

  20. dawn says:

I loved the show Save me! Very disappointed that it was so short lived. They should have given it more of a chance than just 4 nights/7episodes. I think if others had given it a chance and some time then the ratings would have gone up significantly. Its really sad that they are so quick to stop show like this yet want to push shows with cursing, partying, evil and sexual. Really. Before long kids wont even be able to turn the tv without seeing such filth. Is this what we want for our children. Come on people speak up. Where are our values? And then we wonder whats going on in the world and every other show either takes the Lord’s name in vain or uses the f word.We need to wake up and stand up before its to late. Just saying
