Glee Sets Its End Date — But What Do You Want for Its Characters' Endgames? Take Our Polls!

Get More: Glee, Photo Gallery, Polls

Mark your calendars, Gleeks: Fox’s high-school musical will graduate from the airwaves for good sometime around the spring of 2015 — at the end of Season 6, cocreator Ryan Murphy announced this week.

Whether or not news of Glee‘s end date warms your heart or sends you into the fetal position, it’s hard not to wonder how exactly the show’s writers will conclude their tale of William McKinley High School’s underdog show choir (and its all-star alumnae). Heck, Murphy himself is apparently in full brainstorm mode, having told reporters at a Paley Center event honoring FX Networks that he has “a good idea” about “how after Cory [Monteith]’s unfortunate passing, we can end the show” in a way that’s “very satisfactory.”

Anyhow, while the various Glee endgames are still up in the air, we figured we’d put the fates of 11 key characters up to a vote. So click through the following photos and take the polls that accompany each and every one of ‘em. And if you don’t like any of our proposed fates for a particular character, head directly to the comments and propose an idea of your own!

  • I’m all for Kurt having a career ob Broadway or in fashion, both is good. But I think Klaine is a terrible relationship and I hope he will find someone better. I don’t care who, but someone mature who will treat him like a prince. As for Blaine, I want Glee to show that not everyone talented is actually talented enough for Broadway. He could become a music teacher or do something completely else.

    • My feelings, exactly. Let Kurt have an awesome career and leave the Blaine in the dust. Kurt’s outgrown Blaine and would be better off with someone more mature and far less needy.

    • This is hilarious. Blaine is clearly very talented and meant to be a star. And of course Klaine will be getting married, stay pressed.

    • Blaine’s not talented enough for Broadway. Kurt deserves fame and fortune and happiness and Blaine doesn’t. Blaine can just go disappear in a black hole with Sam and I can have my Kurtcheltana being happy together :)

      • Darren has been on Broadway, so I’d say Blaine’s talented enough. He deserves to have his dreams come true because he is a good guy with talent and who works hard. He and Kurt make each other happy. Rachel and Santana are also Blaine’s friends, hate to break it to you.

          • No he wasn’t (for the second one – and stunt casting doesn’t change the fact that he had to be talented enough to even be considered). And he’s appearing in a documentary about Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway work, so don’t tell me he’s not talented. Lots of actors on Glee have performed Sondheim’s songs, but Darren was the one chosen to be featured.

        • Oh may Darren fans who have no idea he was hire for stunt plan and simple. His voice would not hold out for a long tern engagement. His voice couldn’t even handle his own little rinky dink tour.

  • I agree with some other posts that say the characters can have both a career and love at the end of Season 6. Also, thank you TV Line for not putting ANY newbies in your poll. I’m glad you could care less, as most of us.

Although we know Ryan is going to pitch his ideas in the next week and known of us know what will happen, we know from Kevin Reilly that there main 2 story arc that will be focused, which are Rachel & her Broadway dreams and marriage equality for Kurt & Blaine (which will end in marriage in Season 6)

Anyway – what I would like to see:

Rachel – Broadway, Tony and a new love
Sue – More terror on another unsuspecting schools and Glee Club
Kurt – Marriage to Blaine and a a big break as a writer of Broadway Musicals, or designing for Broadway
Sam – Successful model in NY and singing gigs in coffee shops on the side
Santana – Commercial actress and find a stable girlfriend. NOT Britt, she is hopefully not coming back.
Mercedes – Recording star and award winner
Blaine – Marriage to Kurt and either be a house-husband or get a movie deal
Will – Emma and Will can have kids and just go away
Tina – ride into the sunset (sorry)
    Artie – successful film director
    Joe – no….

  • Tina and Artie deserve to stay to the very end. The characters who for all intents and purposes left the show after graduation were played by actors who wanted to get involved in other projects. Jenna and Kevin have shown interest in doing stuff beyond Glee but Glee seems to remain their priority. I know they will never get Rachel/Blaine amount of screentime but they can be supporting characters in the NY storyline and work at the diner or Scandals after graduation.

Comment by Jen – October 20, 2013 06:49 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Agreed on Tina and Artie. I’d love to see them join the crew in NY, with Tina pursuing a career in the media/PR side of showbiz, and Artie pursuing film-making, of course. Jenna and Kevin’s loyalty to this show after all of these years should be rewarded, but at the same time, I don’t trust this show to give them the screentime and storylines they deserve…

But it doesn’t make him evil, and he certainly was never “abusive” (if you believe that then you should maybe inform yourself about what abuse really is). Just because you don’t like Blaine or Klaine does not mean the relationship was bad or that Blaine is the devil. Seriously, grow up!

      • And yet unfortunately, Kurt’s already decided to settle for Blaine considering he’s currently in an unhealthy mindset where he thinks no one will love him better (see the car scene with his father). Sorry that you think that mindset is healthy and that you seem to support Blaine making him feel that way.

        • You have to be deliberately misunderstand this scene. Kurt said that he didn’t think HE would ever loving anyone the way he loves Blaine, not that no one else could ever love him. His exact words were: “Blaine makes me feel so safe, so connected, and loved. I don’t think anyone else is going to make me feel like that.” There is literally no other way to interpret that sentence, yet you’ve allowed your irrational hatred of Blaine blind you to canonical truths.

Comment by Reed – October 20, 2013 11:01 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
        • Kurt did NOT say that he thinks no one will love him better. What he said was that he thinks that HE HIMSELF won’t feel that way about someone else. That’s something else entirely. It’s about HIS own feelings and not about how others might feel about him. So no, he does not heave an unhealthy mindset. He also isn’t lacking in self-esteem – actually he seems very confident right now. Ryan Murphy is not trying to make Klaine look like a bad or abusive relationship no matter how much some so-called Kurt “fans” want to believe that.

Comment by Amy – October 20, 2013 11:53 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • No, we don’t know how Kurt feels about any of it because Kurt has not been allowed to speak of it. Kurt and Chris would be tarred and feathered by the crazy delusion Blaine stans if he didn’t worship their precious cupcake. Kurt was the most critically acclaimed character. Along with Rachel, Kurt is what Glee is all about. And Kurt has been sacraficed at the altar of Blaine to please those crazy delusional fans. Everything that Chris worked so hard on to make Kurt real and inspirational has been destroyed to please the Blaine stans. Blaine is the worst and least developed character on Glee because the actor who portrays him does not make him real.

Comment by jj – October 20, 2013 10:37 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
        • That might make sense if Kurt and Blaine’s relationship received any focus after season two. Kurt had a huge storyline in season three, and rarely interacted with Blaine. While we didn’t get his POV on the cheating, most of what Kurt did in season four was prop up Rachel. If anyone should be blamed for Kurt’s lack of screentime, it’s her. Please learn to separate your dislike of Blaine with what has actually occurred on the show.

  • Kurt /will/ have a romance with a doctor. TV line, keep up. You are, as always, either behind or missinformed. I know this was supposed to be another dig at Blaine and Klaine, but sadly (for you), you failed so hard.

Comment by C – October 20, 2013 07:06 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • No, Blaine is not going to become a doctor, that’s ridiculous. It’s clearly just a one-episode plot.

Here’s a little dose of reality – Glee is a TV show, not life. And that means that all the characters have to have a pretext to spend their time in the same place and sing together. Blaine doesn’t go to medical school or Harvard. He’s in New York, probably at NYADA, probably working in the diner, so he can have lots of solos and duets with Rachel, Kurt and Sam. Rachel doesn’t go off and be a big star in Funny Girl – the show fails and she’s back at NYADA and working in the diner. Sam doesn’t go to Kentucky, or Nashville or anywhere else but New York.

  • I’m so over Klaine — can they just break up so we can have Kurt find someone who actually gives a crap about him and his achievements and won’t act like a spoilt child when Kurt’s trying to put aspects of his life and future together? Kurt’s matured, he needs to find someone who’ll love and respect him and make him feel good for himself, not trap him in a toxic relationship where he settles because he feels like he won’t do any better like Blaine has currently.

Blaine has a lot of growing up to do, so maybe he can find someone else too and go back to being the character we saw in the Dalton days and not the mess he’s turned into now. I don’t mind if Kurt and Blaine stray as friends or go their separate ways completely, but they don’t work as a couple at all.

As for Rachel, not overly bothered if she finds love or not, although it would be sweet to see a flash forward of her happy with a guy in the future. She’ll always love Finn, but she can find happiness with someone else in time. I wouldn’t even mind if it’s Jesse, hat would be sweet :)

Oh, and a huge career for Mercedes. Girl was so under appreciated in her high school, so let the world finally see her shine like the talented diva she is. I’d love that.

I don’t know why I kid myself though, it’s obvious that the show won’t fix itself or it’s huge problems.

Side-eyeing the options for Kurt and not voting due to it. Kurt will have a successfull career (whether it’s Broadway or fashion or both) AND have the fairytale wedding to Blaine. SImple as that.

Comment by M – October 20, 2013 08:52 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Well, I don’t like any of the other options. Even the Broadway one isn’t good enough for him – he should be able to be a star not just a supporting player. No one would suggest such a thing for Rachel after all.
Besides, choosing to spend your life with someone is a special and important thing. It’s no less valuable than a career. In fact, lots of people change their careers midlife and it refreshes them, but usually divorce is not a happy thing at all. So caring about Kurt marrying Blaine means I do care about his future.

Comment by Dee – October 20, 2013 09:34 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • No one would suggest such a thing for Rachel because she has the talent to pull off a Broadway lead. Kurt’s a talented guy but his voice is hit or miss depending on the song and his falsetto is sometimes painful to listen to. For example, Big Girls Don’t Cry. His voice completely ruined that song. He’s better suited to supporting roles with a big number or two that complements his voice. He’s vocally not strong enough to carry a whole musical. Maybe a play or something?

Comment by Ana – October 20, 2013 01:10 PM PDT  Reply To This Post

She needs to prove that she is a STAR, that all the things that have happened to her make her stronger. She neeeds to go to NYADA, Rachel can help her just the way Tina helped Rachel in season 3. We no need to hate Tina, she is an icon of glee, she has been there since the pilot. And Jenna is talented and good, Tina deserve better things.

“A lavish fairytale wedding to Blaine Anderson.”

Don’t know why those are mutually exclusive here… because he can definitely (and probably will) have both!! :)

Same goes for Blaine’s! Although I would LOVE to see him as the first openly gay President ha!

You have options to vote on Kurt’s success that do not affect Klaine (Kurt: “Graduation from NYADA followed by a Broadway career as a respected, supporting player in musical comedies”) and yet you vote for Klaine.
Klainers and Kurt: Kurt (most inspiring character of Glee) only interesting because of his loving relationship (Klaine) and not by his dream.
And then Klainers not understand Kurt’s stans
That’s why Glee has lost so many viewers, the characters’s love life is more important than their dreams (dreams careers)

Comment by Sónia (@SoniaGL16) – October 20, 2013 09:22 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Success in personal relationships is just as important as career success. In fact, I think it’s more important. People with happy marriages and families have someone to comfort them when things go wrong at work. But people with amazing careers and no one to love may be lonely with no support if things get hard.
And anyway I don’t like any of the career options for Kurt, so I voted for the lavish wedding. Same for Blaine, I don’t like any of the options they have for his career they aren’t bad but I want him to be a performer not the president or fashion designer (why isn’t that one an option for Kurt?), so I voted for wedding as well.

    • Similarly, voting for Kurt and Blaine to get married doesn’t mean that Kurt won’t be successful. I understand that you’re working from a 1950′s heteronormative mentality, but it is possible to have both a career and a spouse. Besides, I don’t support Kurt being a bit player in other people’s dreams, and wouldn’t have voted for that even if Klaine was not an option.

  • I almost voted the doctor or the supporting role on Broadway for Kurt, but I’d be happy if he pretty much wins a Golden Globe and has successful writing career (like his actor) and finds the RIGHT guy (which means definitely splitting up with Blaine instead of hooking up with a questionable “first romance” with a guy who needs too much attention).

        • The only reason Finchel isn’t endgame is because Cory died. Klaine, Finchel, and Wemma were always the true endgames.

  • I would love to see Tina have her time to shine at Nationals, she is after all one of the original members. I kind of feel bad for what the writers have been doing to her lately. Last season, Tina said she was on the wait-list for pre-veterinary medicine and that it was a back-up in case she doesn’t pursue acting. But I would actually love to see Tina decide to go into costume design in NY. Since the beginning of the show, Tina’s fashion has changed so much and it has been kind of fun to watch. Tina has created all the costumes for Glee club and for the school plays and I don’t know, I just think that would be a fun twist for Tina, costume design. It is not unusual for young people to start out thinking they want to pursue a particular career path (acting, in this case) and then decide on something else.

Kurt, I think can do anything, but I would really like for things to take off for him at Vogue and really make fashion his career and maybe do acting on the side.

    • I forgot to mention that I believe NYU has a costume design program, so Tina could do that, or whatever the Glee fictional equivalent of the NYU program would be, since I don’t think they can use real university names without getting the rights.

    • This is a great idea, Tina should move to NY and 1. Enter to NYADA with Rachel’s help (just the way Tina helped Rache in S3) or 2. Make a Fashion Career there, and join Kurt and Rachel in NY, they were good friends the first season, they are originals.

  • Kurt’s friends should find out the truth about how Blaine’s such an awful person and help Kurt run him out of town, followed by Kurt finally finding love with someone who doesn’t need him to be submissive and catering to his love interest’s every whim, and most importantly, who don’t feel entitled to get it on whether Kurt wants it or not.

  • Do you think I’ve wasted the past few years for Klaine not to get married and live happily. It doesnt have to be the ending of the show, but a split would be the worst thing ever. I want Kurt to have his dreams come true, but also Blaine so that means Kurt!

Comment by Monica – October 20, 2013 09:54 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Kurt and Blaine should split permanently because their relationship is nauseating and Kurt deserves better. Blaine should be off somewhere getting the attention he so obviously desires. Rachel is a star and should be doing Broadway plays and winning Tonys. Her love life doesn’t need to addressed. She’s young and talented, romantic successes will come. Mercedes should be recording an album. Sam should be doing something that captures his interest for more than 5 seconds, which probably means he should stop chasing women and spend his life doing impressions or being a clown. Santana should be an actress getting roles on the big screen and walking the red carpet with someone special. Santana is one of the few characters on the show that I actually want to see have a successful love life; has the potential to be a very devoted girlfriend/wife. Whether she finds that happiness with Brittany, Dani, or a new girl, doesn’t matter to me.

      • Yeah, but it definitely leads to some rather biased options. Either Kurt is successful or he’s married to Blaine. And the phrasing on the fourth option implies that their relationship immature, and something Kurt needs to outgrow. Either just revel in their hatred for Klaine, giving all the haters in this thread some place to gloat, or put their personal feelings aside. These transparent attempts at “fairness” are funny.

  • For Blaine, the realization that he is truly a mediocre talent who is only able to perform small parts in community theatre, and also, for him to be sitting on the couch in sweats eating chip ahoy cookies crying as he watches Kurt win his fourth Tony Award. Kurt can do so much better than a lying, cheating, jerk who falls in love with whoever happens to be standing next to him.

    • Nothing but the truth. Truth hurts. Kurt is an awesome guy, he just needs to see that a guy does not make him that way. He is awesome on his own. The writing for Kurt and Blaine when they are put together, they are bland as cardboard. Kurt has really matured since graduating, and has shown in his relationship with Adam, he has a real adult and respectful adult one also. The Klaine fans really keep hoping for Ryan Murphy to unite them again. This proposal was so ridiculous when they weren’t even dating. Well, the writers had to rewrite the show after Cory’s passing. We all know what the primary story lines will be..
      Rachel’s Broadway hopes and success
      How Klaine will end.
The onesI really want to see is Tina get her acknowledgement. Santana gets her happiness. Artie goes to become a director. Mercedes in NY. We see Rachel in her ups and downs on Broadway. We never see Blaine again. Nor, McKinley, Sam, Marley, Ryder, Jake, or Unique.
I want to see Will and Emma move to NY with their family growing. Will is a teacher in NY and a director of off Broadway shows. Emma is a councellor. Still, with the best pamphlets in schools.

  • Why isn’t there an option for Kurt have a successful love life and career? Oh, because you just don’t want to see him have that with Blaine… which is what’s obviously going to happen on the show. Sorry, keep dreaming! (But since new spoilers seem to indicate Blaine decides he wants to be a doctor in an upcoming episode, I guess you’re right about that, Kurt will marry a hot NYC doctor!)

  • Ideally this is what I’d like to happen (to my favourite characters):

    - Santana to become a famous chat show host and of course reunite with Brittany and marry her!

    - Rachel to further pursue her dreams and become a star. Not sure about a romance, shall have to wait and see how she’s coping with the loss of the love of her life :(

    - Kurt to become a fashion designer and just be happy

    - Brittany to return, sweep Santana off her feet and become a famous dancer after moving to NY to study dance at Julliard

    - Sam to become a songwriter and move back to Nashville, whilst volunteering at a children’s charity because he’s so good at helping others

    - Quinn to at least appear in one more episode and become a famous actress (basically what Dianna is doing right now)

    - Sue to learn from her mistakes and be happy

    - Blaine to go to NYADA and be a famous singer.

  • All of these characters should have successful careers and find personal happiness, which on a show like Glee often means romantic love. Rachel deserves to at least explore other relationships even if she doesn’t have a romantic “endgame” at the end, Kurt and Blaine deserve that lavish wedding and individual professional success, Santana deserves more than a short-term guest star or Brittany and to achieve her dreams.

  • I want Kurt and Blaine to have their lavish wedding, I want them both to have great careers whether its in performing, or not. I want them both to have kids one day, and I want them to enjoy life the way others in their life weren’t able to. I don’t want them to break up, and I don’t want them to go through hell just to be with one another. And I don’t appreciate the polls suggesting that they can’t have success in their careers, while not getting the romantic wedding of their dreams.

    • It’s funny how so many Kurt fans say they only want Kurt to be happy – but apparently that’s only true as long as the reason for Kurt’s happiness matches the headcanon of said fans. Likewise, Kurt says he loves Blaine, that Blaine makes him feel happy and safe, and CHOOSES to get back together with him … and yet those same Kurt fans say they want Kurt to be with the guy of his choice but ONLY if it is not Blaine? Say what?

Comment by Andrea – October 21, 2013 09:58 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • I’d honestly rather see Kurt in the fashion industry than on broadway, personally I think he belongs there and enjoys it more. Also, I’d like for him to be with someone other than Blaine. I just really don’t like that ship anymore (I used to ship them until season 3, then I was fed up with it completely and the last season hasn’t made it any better) The writing of Blaine’s character has been absolutely awful and with almost not character development at all and the ship almost seems one sided these days with little to no consideration to how Kurt handled the break-up last season (It was completely ignored in the season 5 premiere, actually.) I just don’t get it and I feel like they’re forcing the ship to become canon again before it’s ready to be, that it wasn’t very well thought out on the part of the writing staff. But yeah, Kurt and Blaine both should have happiness that doesn’t revolve solely around them being together or not being together. Blaine should chase his dreams and Kurt should chase his, if they end up married they end up married, but I think they should have both dated other people during their break-up.

    • The way they’ve treated Kurt and Blaine’s relationship makes me really sad. I loved them in season two, and could still enjoy them in season three. But then they decided to completely destroy anything positive about their relationship by making Blaine cheat, and then having him fall in love with Sam episodes before he was supposed to propose to Kurt. They’ve ruined Blaine as a character (and I say this as a former fan), and Klaine as a pairing.

  • I love Blaine and Kurt and I want them to have their lavish New York Wedding and also become stars, a power couple among the fashion and music elite. Rachel should see her dreams come true on Broadway but I’m not particular about her love life. Santana and Mercedes should become a famous R&B duo and Santana should find love but maybe with someone new since Brittany is gone and Demi Lovato probably won’t stay until the end. Mercedes should have lots of men after her but never get serious until she finds the love of her life. Tina and Mike should get back together and move to New York. Tina should design costumes for Artie’s movies and Mike can be the choreographer.

Comment by Emma – October 20, 2013 01:20 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
        • She’s “awful” because the writers wrote her into a hole they don’t know how to get her out of. They did wonders for her screentime by breaking her up with her off-screen boyfriend, but then wrote her into scenes with a character who isn’t worth half the screentime he gets, instead of exploring a mentor role with the newbies, a continuing friendship with Rachel or Santana (remember they wrote Trouty Mouth together) or rekindling her relationship with a character with whom she actually has history and chemistry (Artie). If you don’t think Tina deserves better, try separating the actor and character. Even if you don’t like how Tina acts, Jenna certainly deserves better than she’s been given since the beginning of S2.

          • I agree with you, the writers have been trying to make Tina an bad person, but she deserves more good things, most of the gleeks that have followed the series since the season one love her, and still like her, even when RM want us to hate her. She really deserves to go to NY with Rachel and Santana and she really deserves to make her dreams true!

          • I love how you excuse Tina’s bad behavior, including making fun of Marley’s ED, attacking Kurt, feeling up Blaine while he was passed out, and screaming at Blaine for being unable to return her feelings, as all because of the writers, but then turn around and hate on Blaine, who is actually a nice character but has also been the victim of bad writing. I guess for your fave all the bad stuff is the writers fault oh and also Blaine’s fault but Blaine’s bad stuff is all his fault too not the writing. Double standard much.
