Back in the Game First Look: Maggie Lawson Turns Into a Wild Thing!

Tonight on ABC’s Back in the Game (airing at 8:30/7:30c), Maggie Lawson‘s Terry will fire a series of cocktails down the middle — and we’ve got a first look at the out-of-control consequences.

In the freshman comedy’s latest episode, young Danny decides to mimic his grandpa when “The Cannon” tells him that girls are attracted to bad boys. Mom Terry, annoyed that Danny is channeling her father’s behavior, responds by embarking on a girls’ night out with bestie Lulu.

Alas, the liquor gets the better of the out-of-practice party girl, and she goes down swinging… from the proverbial chandelier.

Awful show, and by the looks of things ratings wise it will soon be canned by ABC. Love Maggie on Psych though and looking forward to seeing her back as Juliet O’Hara next season.

Do you even watch it? Like seriously, every time Back In the Game is mentioned I see a comment on an article with your name on it and it is negative! And by the looks of the ratings, HA, they went up last night!!! So suck on that!

I’m about to watch the show now here on west coast – will report back … hoping for the best.

Okay – well, I have to be honest here… if Maggie Lawson were not on this show, and the lead was say, Anne Heche, I realize I wouldn’t be quite as charitable in my feelings towards this show. Heck, without Lawson, I wouldn’t be watching it. I realize it now – I must really like Maggie Lawson to sit through every episode thus far.

The series is (I believe) about four episodes into the season [it feels a bit longer] – a couple more, and we should know how the actors and writers are settling in and how the show is holding up. The success of this show rests on the shoulders of Lawson and Caan – if they can click, I think the show can make it. If they can’t find their groove, it could be a rough ride.

ABC just gave episode extensions to comedies ‘Goldbergs’ and ‘Trophy Wife’ – sometime in the next couple of weeks, we should see something similar for this show and (I assume) ‘Fun Night’. If ‘Fun Night’ gets an episode order extension, and ‘Back in Game’ does not, that’s not good news for this show. If the writers have a really good episode in them, the next couple of weeks would be a great time to roll that episode out – let’s hope they did, and we see that episode before November.

Suburgatory and Mixology are waiting in the wings – one of the four new comedies that ABC has rolled out this fall may not make it past January – if that. One or two really good episodes of ‘Game’ could push the ratings/demo upward – that could go a long way to keeping this show on the air into January and perhaps beyond.
