Exclusive Behind-the-Scenes Video: Hannibal's Scary Stag Secret Revealed!

Who would’ve guessed that adding a single instrument to the Hannibal soundtrack could make the NBC drama about 300 percent more creepy?

The dark stag that haunted Will’s subconscious throughout Season 1 was accompanied by a bullroarer, an ancient instrument that “creates this very disturbing, guttural, primal sound,” series creator Bryan Fuller explains in this exclusive, behind-the-scenes Blu-ray clip.

In other words, bullroarer = the reason you have to keep the lights on when you go to bed on Hannibal nights.

I always thought that sound was some kind of heavy machinery slowed down… very interesting that it is actually an instrument.
Cant wait for Hannibal to return!

  2. Reblogged this on HORROR BOOM and commented:
“Bullroarer” sounds scary enough as a word, and as a sound… make sure the lights are on when you listen! Can’t wait for S2 of Hannibal.

  3. Miranda says:

    Spine chills!

  4. R.O.B. says:

Such a great show- excellent acting, excellent storytelling. I hope in this second season the ratings start to pick up, as success would be well-deserved.

I’m so happy that NBC didn’t give up on this show! So many creepy moments/visuals, from the human totem pole to Georgia. Yup, she creeped me out. S2!

  6. Maya says:

Maybe I’m a bit odd, but the Bullroarer doesn’t freak me out. When I heard it I knew exactly what it was, and literally flashed back to Crocodile Dundee. So it actually has a rather soothing effect on me, like a didgeridoo.

Love this show. Creepiest moment was when the girl finds the brush in her hyperbaric chamber and starts brushing her hair. You know exactly whats about to happen and you want to stop it but you can’t because it’s TV! AHHHH so freaky!!!
