What to Watch Sunday: The Newsroom Finale, New Boardwalk Baddie, Divas' Time Out and More

the-newsroom-s2-finaleOn TV this Sunday: The fate of The Newsroom hangs in the balance, Total Divas ends its summer run, Miss America 2014 is crowned and Liv and Maddie aren’t playing around. As a supplement to TVLine’s original features (linked within), here are 10 programs to keep on your radar.

8 pm See Dad Run (Nickelodeon) | It’s the Happy Days reunion you never knew you wanted when Ted McGinley (aka Roger Phillips on that ’70s show) plays a longtime nemesis of Scott Baio’s David.

8 pm Liv and Maddie (Disney Channel) | Series premiere: Sporty teen Maddie (Dove Cameron) is thrown for a loop when her glam twin Liv (also Cameron), star of the TV show Sing It Loud!, suddenly returns to their Wisconsin home. Here, the sibs fight back against the school principal after he cuts funds from the girls’ hoops team. (Watch a sneak peek.)

9 pm Miss America 2014 (ABC) | The pageant winner is crowned from Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Here’s hoping this year’s Miss Utah has over-prepared for the interview round.

9 pm Boardwalk Empire (HBO) | Van Alden is ordered to keep tabs on Al Capone, and a disgruntled Dr. Valentin Narcisse (guest star Jeffrey Wright, Quantum of Solace) arrives in Atlantic City.

9 pm Breaking Bad (AMC) | Are you ready for yet another frustratingly vague episode synopsis? Your wish is my command: “Everyone tries to cope during vastly changed circumstances.” See?!

10 pm Devious Maids (Lifetime) | Marisol puts herself in danger as she digs deeper into Flora’s murder.

10 pm Ray Donovan (Showtime) | Bunchy has a violent encounter, while Ray is called to handle a crisis.

10 pm Total Divas (E!) | Summer finale: Nattie’s dream wedding takes an unexpected turn, and Nikki is asked to meet John Cena’s family. (Note: The cast will reflect on Season 1-to-date during Total Divas After Party, airing at 11 pm. An additional six episodes launch Nov. 17.)

  • Gotta say, I *love* that BREAKING BAD has adopted the MAD MEN technique of impenetrable episode synopses. I don’t have the willpower to look away, but I really *don’t* want to know what’s coming!

Busy night: LAST TANGO IN HALIFAX, BREAKING BAD, NEWSROOM, BOARDWALK EMPIRE.
