What to Watch Friday: Haven Returns, Jessie Quits, Casey Wilson Bangs Out a Tune and More

Haven - Season 4On TV this Friday: Haven comes back and jumps ahead, Jessie goes home and signs off, Comedy Bang! Bang! has quite a happy ending and History Special: Target Earth brings our nightmares to life. Here are 10 programs to keep on your radar this Friday the 13th.

8 pm Jessie (Disney) | One-hour season finale: When Jessie takes the Ross kids back home to Texas, their antics at her dad’s (James Patrick Stuart) military base push her over the edge. SNL alum/Enlightened Emmy nominee Molly Shannon and The Office‘s Kate Flannery guest-star. (Yep, renewed.)

8 pm Perfect Score (CW) | Contestants (and BFFs!) Brooklyn and Kelly judge the show’s first ever fashion show and try to find their best match to win a cash prize.

9 pm America’s Next Top Model (CW) | If you enjoyed the Perfect Score fashion show at 8, just wait ‘til the “Exploring the Streets of Los Angeles in Your Underwear” fashion show at 9!

9 pm Target Earth (H2) | Have you been feeling too calm lately? Then check out this new special that explores terrifying possibilities, such as outside forces using our planet’s natural resources against us.

9:30 pm Phineas & Ferb (Disney) Candace finds a witness to all of Phineas and Ferb’s summer antics: her neighbor, Peggy McGee (voiced by Goldie Hawn). Wait, Goldie Hawn — who has not appeared in a film since 2002 or done a TV series since Laugh-In? And Gordon Ramsay is also guest-starring? Who does the casting for this show and why is he or she omnipotent?

10 pm Haven (Syfy) | Season 4 premiere: Six months after the devastating meteor shower that left an injured Nathan stranded in Haven — with Audrey and Duke nowhere to be found — the “Troubles” are still plaguing the Maine burg. (Get a sneak peak and casting scoop, plus take a look at the comic book that fills in the gaps between last season and the premiere.)

10 pm Comedy Bang! Bang! (IFC) | Summer finale: If you can handle watching Casey Wilson sing – inspired by “I Dreamed a Dream,” no less – without Hathaway-like sobbing over Happy Endings’ cancellation, then you’re a stronger person than I am. I dreamed that Penny Hartz would never die/I dreamed that USA would be forgiving….

10 pm Real Time with Bill Maher (HBO) | Midseason premiere: Maher talks with upcoming Dancing star Bill Nye the Science Guy. Is it too much to hope they’ll set off a baking soda volcano?

10 pm Cracked (Reelz) | Aiden and Daniella investigate the home life of a bullied schoolgirl who violently lashed out at her tormenters.

10 pm CMT Crossroads: Stevie Nicks and Lady Antebellum (CMT) | Fortunately (or unfortunately?) not a musical adaptation of the Britney Spears classic, this collaboration between the rock-and-roll legend and the country trio is a performance I don’t know how I can do without – I just need it now.

COMING NEXT FRIDAY: Last Man Standing, The Neighbors and Shark Tank return.

  • You know….I know this is silly and maybe petty….but I really hate it when promos are labeled as sneak peeks. Sneak peek is a scene from the episode.

    • Not silly at all. I feel exactly the same way. When I see a preview I’m expecting it to be a scene from the next episode of a show, and it’s very disappointing (and waste of my time) when it actually is only a series of scenes from prior shows as a promo. Good point Alichat.

  • I watched the marathon of Haven last week and I don’t recall Duke being gone too. Damnitalltohell, I knew I shouldn’t have deleted that last episode.

    • Damn right! Where’s the love for legend of Korra?

Comment by Mufsin – September 13, 2013 09:22 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • Totally agree. Hey, I am 47 and I loved the first 13 episodes of the Legend of Korra. It was very well done and very well thought out. It has won awards. I really think Anime is soooo overlooked in this country. When I saw Fullmetal Alchemist and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, not only was I blown away, but, that was some of the best writing, ever, for any show, much less a “cartoon” and it burns me that they don’t respect them at all.

Korra had a great 13 episodes and I can’t wait for the next batch…

  • I think a Crossroads sequel really should be in the works. I would absolutely pay to see that. Musical or not (though a musical would obviously be preferred)
