Fall TV Preview

Amazing Race 23 Cast Includes NFL Vets, NHL Ice Dancers, MLB Wives and 'Bingo Queens'

CBS has unveiled the cast for the 23rd running of The Amazing Race (premiering Sunday, Sept. 29), and among the globe-trotters are a pair of former NFL teammates, two MLB “baseball wives” (which apparently is an “occupation”) and a couple of self-described “bingo queens.”

This fall’s TAR will bring back the Double Express Pass twist that was introduced last cycle — in which the first team to check in at the first pit stop will earn two “Express Passes” (one for themselves and one that must be given to another team by the end of the fifth leg) — while the challenges/destinations include paragliding in Iquique, Chile, a bone-chilling plunge in Norway and Formula One racing in Abu Dhabi.

  1. Babybop says:

Why would you go on this show with your ex? I feel like that would be a terrible idea.

  2. Eli says:

Jesus, except for the 1 married ER Physician every woman in this list seems to be a giant bimbo… cheerleaders, baseball wives, gym instructors and a frickin “Social Media Manager”. Why is it so hard for these reality shows to cast normal women?

    • brycealexander says:

      Cool misogyny bro

    • Abby says:

Sorry, what’s ‘bimbo’ about a social media manager? Because she happens to have boobs? And what bimbo about a young female doctor running the race with her father? Or a female ER doc running the race with her husband? You did say ALL the woman are bimbos, yet you missed these two in your breakdown of who’s what. I wouldn’t be shocked if the real reason you think this list lacks strong women is because all you notice are boobs…Each and every one of the ‘bimbos’ you mentioned could in fact be very strong women who happen to be gorgeous. Misogyny indeed, Eli.

    • Adam says:

That Social Media Manager competed 2 Masters Degrees by the time she was 22. How many Masters Degrees did you have at that age? Don’t judge so hastily.

    • Ronnie says:

Eli; What about this woman; “Marie “Reebs” Mazzocchi, 29, gym owner”; a Gym Owner; not normal enough for you?

    • ann says:

The baseball wives have master degrees, Amy entered college at age 16 and went on to get 2 master degrees, Marie owns a successful gym. Your sexist remark is typical

    • Once again we see the effects of affirmative action. The so called ER doctors are not even qualified to treat a hang-nail. If they were white, they would never have been allowed into med school.
The most recent episodes show them to be
      a) racists(the “Afghanimals” ??? are you kidding me ?). Imagine if they were called the AfricanSavages,
      b) Whiners and backstabbers.
      c) cheats

Let all people compete for and get jobs on an equal footing. In that case there would be no blacks in any profession. (Obama is not an American black)

  3. Tyler says:

There doesn’t seem to be many man/woman couples this season. I see a lot of man/man pairings though. But what’s up with all these cousins, childhood friends, best friends, etc.? Doesn’t sound like a very good season.

  4. Louise says:

The married ER physicians are on ‘Untold Stories of the ER’ all the time. She’s a little intense.

  5. le says:

    3 EM docs?

  6. liz says:

I miss the days when Amazing Race cast more ‘regular’ people. Honest, hard working Americans that wouldn’t normally get a chance to go on such an adventure and didn’t exactly look the part. Not NFL athletes and beauty models.

    • Darlene B. Norris says:

I agree, most of these contestants have high paying careers or once were professional athletes. The show needs to get back to the regular everyday people that would really benefit from winning. I know that those people try to get on the show, but it appears they are only accepting a different class of people now. Sad for us regular guys

  7. JM says:

The hippie/long beard guys look like they might be fun. Other than that, I’ll hold my opinion until the premiere.

  8. Shaun says:

Watching this season for the ice dancers….whee!XD.My favorite combo of hockey related and boobs!:)

  9. Evan says:

Doesn’t one of those NFL guys host Ninja Warrior?

  10. DavidSask says:

The stunt casting of these reality shows is unfair to the regular folks at home watching ,they should be the contestants year to year!

  11. Trip says:

Liking the diversity of the group! Nice to see a cross-section of Americans!

  12. sally says:

For the past 5 or 6 seasons each couple has to have a gimmick…why can’t you just have “regular” people on the show like it used to be???!!!

  13. AJ says:

Anybody watching The Amazing Race Canada Season 1?

The only thing I don’t like is that the whole race is in Canada, I hope there is a season 2 where they go around the world.

By the time the finale comes, TAR S23 will start :)

  14. Heathers says:

When they said “Bingo Queens” I thought two Grandmas who love bingo, not two fat mos.
