Timothy Dalton Joins Penny DreadfulOnetime James Bond Timothy Dalton has boarded Penny Dreadful, Showtime’s eight-episode “literary horror” series being penned by film vet John Logan and helmed in part by Juan Antonio Bayona (The Orphanage).

Featuring Dr. Frankenstein and his creature, Dorian Gray and iconic figures from the Dracula novel, Penny Dreadful has been lauded by Showtime boss David Nevins as “smart and psychological, but we’re not going to be gentle with the horror. I think it’s going to scare the s–t out of people.”

Dalton is set to play Sir Malcolm, a hardened African explorer on a deeply personal quest. The actor’s other TV credits include an arc on Chuck, Doctor Who and the upcoming TV-movie Toy Story of Terror.

The series’ first castings were Josh Hartnett (The Faculty), as an American “fake cowboy” who enchants the ladies of Victorian era London, and Eva Green (Camelot). Production starts in October with an eye ona 2014 premiere.

  • Josh Hartnett is a lot of fun and Timothy Dalton was wonderful on Chuck, so this show is already shaping up to be good, in my opinion.
