Get More: Cancellations

happily divorced cancelledTV Land has parted ways with Happily Divorced, canceling the Fran Drescher comedy after two seasons due to low ratings, per Deadline.

  • It was two seasons not three. The “third season” was an extended 2nd season.

    • I loved the show “Happily Divorced” – it was very funny and had great guests. Please bring it back on another channel if not TV Land. There are very few funny shows and Fran and Company was a great one – Love it!

    • I love the show Happily Divorced. I am very disappointed to hear that it was cancelled. There are soooo many reality shows that I can hardly watch tv anymore. I have enough reality I need a great comedy and I know this show was a reflection of Fran’s real life but it was quite funny. These days everyone needs to laugh more. Please bring it back.

  • This was the best show on TV land. I can’t believe they cancelled it. The ex’s is terrible, yet their still on. Poor franny , I adore her and Pete. Wish they would reconsider. I miss that show already. It was better then hot in Cleveland, which use to be my favorite until happily divorced, making hot and cleavland my second favorite show. All the rest are terrible, so now I will only watch hot in Cleveland then change the channell. I hope to see Franny soon, on a another citcom, she is my ultimate funny girl. Please reconsider bringing my franny back, and soon. Mrs Tenentes

  • I thought the show was amusing and entertaining and the cast was great. Definitely better than Retired at 35–even the great Jessica Walter couldn’t save that pathetic turd. But I still enjoy Hot In Cleveland and, to a lesser extent, the Exes, another show with a great cast that is plagued by wildly inconsistent writing; it runs the gamut from be mildly hilarious to painfully unfunny.

I can’t understand that “The Exes” and “The Soul Man” are still on TVLand. They don’t even come close to being as funny as “Happily Divorced”. Please bring it back! I’m a big fan. • MeTV is by no means anything to crow about. Most of the old programming they show sucks donkey balls! Who can honestly find anything entertaining about such immensely inferior shows such as: F Troop, Beverly Hillbillies, Petticoat Junction, Green Acres, I dream of Jeannie, Hogan’s Heroes, The Lucy Show, The Mothers In law, Gomer Pyle USMC, The Love Boat, Gilligan’s Island, M*A*S*H, Dick Van Dyke Show, The Odd Couple, I Love Lucy, The Brady Bunch, etc….

These are some of the most overrated, lamest, tackiest, most poorly written, produced, directed and conceived TV show ever made. Why will people bitch about today’s TV shows and not give jeers to where they really belong to all of that egregious old crap.

Ok, so there are some lame shows made today. But today’s level of lame can’t even come close to yesteryears level of lame.

I sincerely applaud TVland for reducing their library and a reduction of playing ancient sitcoms. They had some pretty darn good reality shows that didn’t deserve to be cut so soon. TVland’s own produced sitcoms: Hot In Cleveland, Happily Divorced and Retired at 35 were cutting edge. These shows had an extremely high comedic level, well acted, well written and very much re-watchable many times over. I dare you to try and watch one episode of Gilligan’s Island and wanting to cut your wrists after just a few minutes of exposure of this ghastly sitcom!

    • Well I agree with your comments about “some” of the old shows, they were based on simpler times and showcased what was going on then. Of course today’s shows are edgier. Also I will vehemently disagree with you about Retired at 35…now that show was completely unwatchable! Again, another lame show reflecting the current times – adult children living with parents.

  • I can’t believe the ignorance and blatant, egotistical boorishness of the poster “Dean Edell.” Just who do you think you are, sir? Your vulgar vernacular is proof positive just what kind of person you are. I’ll tell you who you are, someone completely lacking in good taste!

My goodness you make for a most undesirable twit!

Your vicious, unwarranted gripes regarding MeTV is an outrage! How dare you?! MeTV is one of those stations that is one of the last vestiges of hope in today’s rancid television market.

So what if some of those old shows are kind of silly? They’re not the filth laden, poorly acted and inferior to the core garbage that’s the norm for shows made today.

TVLand is an inferior network! They have abandoned a HUGE portion of their audience by offering a plethora of tasteless modern rubbish and what few classics that they air are edited beyond belief making them unwatchable as well.

Those so-called “reality” shows that you, “Dean,” speak so highly of are the reason television is in ruins today. Those “reality” shows that TVLand once aired are so unspeakable horrible that only an absolute cretin could find them entertaining.

TVLand’s so called “originals” are all in the same boat: tasteless! I find absolutely NO entertainment value whatsoever in rot such as Retired at 35, Hot in Cleveland and Happily Divorced, etc. These shows are certainly in a class all by themselves. I know several people who’ve sampled these “TVLand originals” and it took only one viewing to fully abstain from any future viewings.

I presume, Dean, that you’re one of these loser 20 or 30 something’s that hasn’t much happiness circulating in your lonely miserable life, eh? You “value” the worst that television has to offer. An evening with the Kardashian’s, Honey Poo Boo and Fran Drescher and “you feel” you have a fulfilling life. Oh dear, oh, dear!

Well, I’m glad I don’t mingle with loser’s like you sir. So go ahead and resume with your “love affair” of all of those tasteless presentations that modern television has to offer your simplistic mind.

    Good Day

  • TV Land jumped the shark eons ago. Happily Divorced was just another one of TV Land’s ill conceived, in house, productions that never should’ve been given the green light. I personally find Ms. Drescher an irritating actress. I have nothing against her personally, but I just don’t care for her acting style. As rotten as Happily Divorced is, The Nanny is about as inferior as they come regarding sitcoms. Since TV Land has never recovered from its ills I shall remain an adamant opponent of the network.

  • I have to say, whoever at TVLand decided to start making sitcoms for the network was just wrong. I will say, they did seem to strike gold with the first season of ‘Hot in Cleveland’, but they got greedy. They started spewing out dumb sitcoms one after another like the big networks and their ‘cancelled-sitcoms after cancelled-sitcoms’ schedule. They would have been fine had they kept playing older sitcoms and then ‘HIC’ in it’s designated time, but NO. They had to re-run it countless times throughout the following days for about a year later. And when that idea began to wear off – some idiot decided to come up with Retired at 35. Really, here’s a synopsis of their sitcom’s popularity in a nutshell.

HOT IN CLEVELAND – I won’t lie, I really liked the concept of this show when it began. It stood great by itself. But add in countless other bad sitcoms and HIC had to follow the trend. This past season of HIC blew chunks, while going nowhere with the storyline, might I add. As well, what show can be that good when it’s biggest surge in viewership is relied on by that week’s guest star? The show has had WAY too many over the past few seasons.

RETIRED AT 35 – Horrible and just sad premise, the show had its moments of actual watchability, but no one could deny it was a stinker, destined to make history as the first ever TVLand show to face cancellation.

HAPPILY DIVORCED – This was a valiant effort on TVLand’s part. Risky plotline with their older audience, not to mention, somewhat all-star casting (the term all-star being used loosely). But the network played off the gay storyline of the show so poorly. It just didn’t amount to much after awhile. The jokes and storylines went stale after the first season. But while it did go downhill fast, I don’t think it deserved to be the 2nd axed TVLand sitcom.

SOUL MAN – I absolutely hate this show. I don’t want to sound atheist or racist, but both stereotypes they’re using to get viewers for this show just appall me. The show’s religious undertones often get too preachy, and their black-stereotypes are atrocious. The jokes are NEVER funny and it just slaughters the talent of its 2 somewhat popular lead actors. I am surprised that the show has not been cancelled to this point. It is 100% awful.

THE EXES – A somewhat entertaining plot with somewhat all-star casting. You knew everybody had been on a previous popular show, even if you hadn’t seen it. And they haven’t heavily loaded this one down with guest star after guest star like Hot In Cleveland and Soul Man. I’ll say, I do think it could be somewhat enjoyable to a simpler audience. Sharper viewers will get bored easily, though. But to me, I feel this is TVLand’s 2nd most popular show, so expect it and HIC around for awhile.

KIRSTIE – This show isn’t even out yet, but I’ll definitely give my opinion. THIS SHOW WILL SUCK. ALL of it’s advertising has barely been highlighting the show, rather cramming the 3 all-star leads (Kirstie, Michael, Rhea) down our throats, making sure we remembered who they were. What about this show seems watchable rather than seeing these guys act again? It will be an awful show, mark my words. You will not like it.

BOTTOM LINE: TVLand needs to STOP spewing out these sitcoms like they’re golden. They’re far from great. Not even their star-show, Hot in Cleveland is good anymore. I feel what would be awesome would be if everyone somehow ‘boycotted’ the channel and they would be forced to cancel every single sitcom they’ve made and revert to older programming. Instead of making dumb new shows, just start showing great old ones. They’ve had Friends, 30 Rock, Mash, Boston Legal, and others on their lineup but none of them have stuck around (Friends has been shortlived on TVLand 2 separate times THIS YEAR). Keep bringing CLASSIC favorites, like they used to, and never should have stopped doing, and the channel will be back to normal. I’m seriously annoyed by this sitcom epidemic they’re having and want it gone as soon as possible.
