Sarah Michelle Gellar Talks Buffy Movie: If the Story Were Right, 'We Would Do It'

buffyBuffy Summers is no stranger to coming back from the dead, and there’s the tiniest of chances that her show could follow suit — on the big screen.

“If there ever was the right story, we would do it,” Buffy the Vampire Slayer herself Sarah Michelle Gellar recently told E! while promoting her upcoming CBS comedy The Crazy Ones.

The (formerly) Chosen One said that she and Buffy creator Joss Whedon — who also wrote the 1992 feature film that preceded the supernatural TV series — have spoken about bringing Buff back to the cineplex.

“But the thing with Buffy is that Buffy was a movie, and it ultimately didn’t work as a film,” she said, mainly because “the story works better over time.”

With the recently Kickstarted Veronica Mars movie in production — as well stars floating talk about Chuck and The X-Files big-screen revivals — perhaps Buffy is primed to ride the nostalgia wave, too?

“At this point,” Gellar joked, “the stake would be my walker and I would be hobbling in.”

I know it’s only gonna happen in my head lol, but more than a movie I would cry of happiness with a reboot of the show. Even for just one season. Also with the slayers being now all activated, a new generation of watchers emerging, the possibilities could be almost endless.

  2. Diana says:

We think that Joss Whedon should make a new Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie featuring the orginal TV with a huge twist.

  3. Rebecca says:

I would definitely go see it! I don’t care that they are older, people age. Anything is possible and Joss is good enough to pull it off!

    • Conrad says:

Who says the story stops because of age? I always thought the story continued until we were gone. In Joss Whedon’s world, sometimes it even carries on after death. It’s harder to write a script and produce with these circumstances. So, maybe that’s what’s holding Joss back. it would be a challenge. But hey, Ironman is hot, and Robert Downey is no kid!

  4. TrippleD says:

It seems like activity always picks up when the major players of any of Joss’s projects have a new item in the mix. I can’t quite shake the thoughts that this story and others like it, are just some sort of PR ploy to promote SMG new series or Joss’s latest project.

After all, we BtVS and Angel fans are loyal. Would be a big misuse of loyalty and a fanbase, but still, the possibility exist. I hope I’m wrong.
