CBS Boss Addresses Cote de Pablo's NCIS Exit: 'We Offered Her a Lot of Money'

Why Cote de Pablo Left NCIS

CBS didn’t let NCIS leading lady Cote de Pablo go without a fight.

“I really want to clarify: We offered Cote de Pablo a lot of money — and then we offered her even more money,” CBS Corp. president and CEO Les Moonves shared Monday morning at the Television Critics Assoc. summer press tour in Beverly Hills. “We really didn’t want to lose her, we love her. We think she’s terrific. We obviously were in discussions… and ultimately she decided she didn’t want to do the show. It was her decision. We don’t like losing anybody. We did everything humanly possible [and] exhausted every opportunity, and she just decided she didn’t want to do the show.”

News of de Pablo’s imminent exit from TV’s most watched drama came on July 10, barely a week before NCIS began production on its upcoming season and two months after Criminal Minds actresses Kirsten Vangsness and A.J. Cook endured their own protracted contract talks, as they sought greater pay parity with their male costars.

At the time de Pablo tendered her decision, she issued a statement saying, “I’ve had eight great years with NCIS and Ziva David. I have huge respect and affection for Mark [Harmon], Gary [Glasberg], Michael [Weatherly], David [McCallum], Rocky [Carroll], Pauley [Perrette], Brian [Dietzen], Sean [Murray], all of the team and CBS. I look forward to finishing Ziva’s story.”

  1. I need to to thank you for this great read!! I definitely loved every little bit of
it. I’ve got you saved as a favorite to look at new things you post…

  2. Barry says:

Sad, she was such a great character in this show. She will be greatly missed, but always remembered.

  3. Jean Dampier says:

Cote de Pablo as Ziva had a quirky type of personality that those who have followed her do not. Her misuse of words and somewhat questionable relationship with Michael combined with Gibbs to give a spark to the show that other detective shows do not have. Even though I am sorry to see Cote de Pablo leave, you should find a female star who shines in her own right with her own strong personality.

  4. Gary Borham says:

I’ve watched this program sines it ‘s first airing! I will not any more. You always get rid of the best!

  5. Jimmy Priest says:

Hi im jimmy regular guy I really feel if we met it would be. Natural. Since probably not possible. I truly enjoye the 8 years as we grew together. I’ll miss you.im jimmy.

  6. Franklin Rogers says:

Forget Ziva. Bring back Tony’s true love – as he has admitted in later shows – Dr. Jeanne Benoit. She need NCIS help against her dead father’s arms dealers. When she said she was in Africa, she was actually giving birth to a daughter, she named Antoinette ! How old would she be now?

  7. gibbs4ever says:

I can truly say I miss Ziva…she had such a following ..I’ve told my friends and family….bring her back get rid of the kid…she has NO spark…boring and as for intelligence..we have Tim and gibbs plus fora plus…come back carrying a heir for Tony…they had chemistry like Gibbs and Jenny..please open your eyes and see what is missing…this show came on before my brother died from cancer and we always discussed each episode…when I watch I think of him plus he met Mark Harmon when de lived in California…thank you for the memories of happy times and I truly hope you run forever.

  8. Mary C G says:

    Mary C. G.
I’ve read some of what was said. It’s true NCIS is not the same since Ziva left. No one can take her place. She’s a great actress. I do hope that one day, soon she will return to NCIS. I still watch NCIS, but a lot of what I watch are the repeats with Ziva. If this makes any difference, please let Cote De Pablo / Ziva know how much she’s missed.

  9. jmhunsaker says:

Did not like Bishop at first but the writers and actress are making her a good fit. Leave Bishop and Mark married it gives the show a little variation in the characters.

  10. Hope Creasman says:

I will miss Pablo. She brought a different culture to the show and was such a good addition. I hope they leave her alive so if she wishes to return, she may. I am sure repeating the role over and over was not challenging to her. But to us, she was a part of the show that you inwardly began to feel that she was one of us. I was hoping for a relationship between her and Tony as a way to end both of their careers. It would be leaving on a good note.

  11. Ronald Smith says:

Cote was the reason I enjoyed the show not to say even the littlest about the writers because they are (FANTASTIC) but Cote de Pablo was the reason I had started watching.

  12. janet Krouse says:

I still like Ziva Cote de Pablo . I still want her back NCIS . I am disappoint about new one she is ok but I rather Ziva better.
