Breaking Pointe‘s Ronnie Underwood was dancing in The Nutcracker when a bad landing broke his foot and left his ballet career hanging in the balance.

In this exclusive first look at the CW series’ second season premiere (Monday, July 22 at 9/8c), a hobbling Underwood explains how rest, a surgical screw “about longer than your pinky” and patience may be the only things that can salvage his artistic future.

As a doctor notes that even a full recovery may leave him in chronic pain, Underwood tries to remain positive. After all, as he notes, “My whole career — and life — depends on it.”
