On TV this Thursday: Graceland guys disagree about guns and gangs, gay actors are among those on HBO’s Out List, Does Someone Have to Go? does just that and Independence Day-saster tries to prevent an alien nation. As a supplement to TVLine’s original features (linked within), here are 10 programs to keep on your radar.
8 pm The Hero (TNT) | After The Rock reveals a huge twist in the game, contestants leap off a building, climb a 40-story abandoned elevator shaft and attempt a daunting open-water swim.
8 pm The Vampire Diaries (The CW) | Repeat to Revisit: Make sure you’ve got tissues (or a heart of stone) to help you deal with the last few minutes of the hour, which feature this exchange: “I can’t do this, Elena. Not anymore.” “I know.”
9 pm Independence Day-Saster (Syfy) | In this TV-movie, an alien invasion shuts down America’s defenses (gee, wonder where they got that idea?), and it’s up to Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith the President’s brother and a renegade scientist to defeat the intergalactic bad guys. Tom Everett Scott (Southland), Ryan Merriman (Pretty Little Liars) star.
9 pm Burn Notice (USA Network) | Fiona and Madeline frame a corrupt Russian bureaucrat to help Michael free a prisoner in Cuba.
9 pm Does Someone Have to Go? (Fox) | Season finale: The staff of True Home Value decides the professional fate of three underperforming employees. (Not yet renewed.)
9 pm Intervention (A&E) | A 23-year-old heroin addict wastes his life in his parents’ basement. (Thank goodness this is the final season, because I can’t take much more of this heartache.)
9 pm Anger Management (FX) | Back-to-back episodes: Charlie sees an unorthodox new therapist (guest-star Marion Ross, Happy Days), and Charlie steals a hot woman from an angry nerd. (Note: Tonight’s first episode previously aired on Fox.)
9:30 pm The Out List (HBO) | This super-timely collection of firsthand accounts examines what it means to be gay in America. Interviewees include daytime-TV host Ellen DeGeneres, How I Met Your Mother‘s Neil Patrick Harris, Sex and the City‘s Cynthia Nixon and The New Adventures of Old Christine‘s Wanda Sykes.
10 pm Graceland (USA Network) | A Nigerian drug lord recruits Mike to give gang members pointers on shooting — and Briggs doesn’t like it.
10 pm Wilfred (FX) | Back-to-back episodes: Ryan doesn’t trust his sister’s new dude, and then he and Wilfred attend a dog-training class solely to charm a girl.
