Daytime Emmys: B&B and Y&R Dominate, GH's Ex-Lulu Wins, Days Is Named Best Drama

Daytime Emmy Winners 2013The 40th annual Daytime Emmy Awards were held Sunday night in Beverly Hills, hosted by Sam Champion (Good Morning America) and HLN personalities Robin Meade and A.J. Hammer.

CBS’ The Bold and the Beautiful boasted the biggest haul, translating its 15 nominations into nine total Emmys, including for Writing, lead actress Heather Tom and five Creative Arts trophies collected on Saturday.

Sister sudser The Young and the Restless — which went into this year’s awards with the most nominations, 23 — wound up with seven wins, including for Lead Actor/first-time gold-grabber Doug Davidson.

Days of Our Lives was named best drama. One Life to Live earned one Emmy, tying General Hospital for Multiple Camera Editing on Saturday night.

On the “interesting” side, GH‘s former Lulu, Julie Marie Berman, nonetheless won for Supporting Actress, while Kristen Alderson earned her first Emmy,Daytime Emmy Winners 2013 in the Younger Actress race, for playing Starr — a character that has since been yanked away from her by the One Life to Live reboot/legal flapdoodle.

Among the telecast’s highlights, and there were so few: Corbin Bernsen dropping the S-word and an F-bomb while imagining what his late mother, Y&R legend Jeanne Cooper, must be thinking about this year’s ceremony (namely, her being a part of the In Memoriam tribute); and Carrie Fisher dropping acid… jokes before getting to hand an Emmy to her onetime Star Wars boss, George Lucas (accepting for The Clone Wars).

  1. Xandra says:

I like Kristen Alderson I think it was recognition of her playing Starr for 15 years and a good way to wrap up the character. At least it wasn’t that that poor girl who plays Kristina on GH. The turnaround DAYS has had over the last 6 months or so has been amazing. The stories are both well written and acted. I see nominations next year for Blake Berris, Eileen Davidson, Camilla Banus.

  2. Ronny says:

Katherine Kelly Lang (Brooke, B&B) was robbed! Her first nomination (which is a joke since she is one of the best actresses t in daytime) should have turned into a win.

  3. Tres says:

Oh my, this was a sinful display. The couch, Carrie Fisher was excruciating to watch, Robins singing was dreadful. Katherine Kelly Lang should of had best supporting actress. This was the 1st year I talked my husband into watching it. Half way througn I apologized & told him to switch it. I was so embarrassed.

  4. Tres says:

What was with Giada wearing her bobbies on full display???? I was so surprised to see that from her. She always seems so classy but that was tasteless & very unnecessary.

  5. Jennifer says:

The producers need to be fired. One embarrassing snafu after another. Wrong envelopes, f-words uncensored, couch interviews, teleprompters in the wrong spot,\etc. But the worse thing was that Monty Hall waited 50 years for a Lifetime Achievement Award only to have his tribute cut-short by Wayne Brady and his video not shown. How terrible!! I’ve read 4 stories this morning about last night’s Emmy Awards and not one journalist picked up on this. Maybe they’re all too young to even know who Monty Hall is. Shockingly unprofessional!

  6. GS says:

Granted I rarely watch the any soaps anymore b/c they are just ridiculous but when did Heather Tom become a lead actor on B & B?? KKL should have won over her any day even if Brooke is a raging slut bouncing from man to man. She has been the show from day 1 and Heather Tom plays a secondary character at best. She needs to go back to Y & R b/c I can’t stand the chick that plays Victoria now.

  7. Mary says:

I started watching and only lasted about 10 minutes. This was the worst production I have ever seen on TV. A College intern would of done better. I figure since there is only one Soap I watch, GH, most of the winners would be from the others, I was correct. I am happy for Julie and Kristen.

  8. Scott Henry says:

Katherine Kelly Lang was robbed! After being overlooked by the Emmys for 26 years she finally garnered a nomination, which I thought deserved to become a win. She is the best actress is soaps, along with Michelle Stafford who deserved to win Lead Actress, and is the heart and soul of The Bold and The Beautiful.

  9. Paul says:

In a word: Painful. They should not televise them at all. Save the money put it into better production values and have a tastefully done off air celebration. To do this on the 40th anniversary was inexcusable. Lets see…
Poor Monty Hall Never Got To See His Video Tribute
Poor Billy Miller Never Got To Get A Word In During The Tie Win In Supporting Actor

  10. flutiefan says:

    kinda surprised Kevin Clash won…

  11. kay Cronk says:

This was the worst show or tribute I have ever seen. It was childish nonprofessional and ridiculous..thi was an isult to the fans and the actors. The couch segment doesn’t even deserve mention ..Foolis and retarded I wont watch again. Just log in for the results the DAY AFTER… Kay

  12. Shay says:

Since the nominations were such a terrible joke, at least the awards show was appropriately awful, as well!

  13. Clandestine Cassadine-Green says:

Come back to the mother ship Julie Marie Berman…NuNu LuLu is horrible. Good for Alderson…I don’t see her winnie another Emmy based on her performance as KiKi…ugh
