Hot Promo: The Newsroom Team Stands Alone

Call it “The Adventures of Will McAvoy, King of the Journalistic Integrity Desert.”

Before teeing up what portends to be Game of Thrones‘ huuuuge penultimate Season 3 episode, HBO on Sunday night premiered a new promo for The Newsroom‘s sophomore run.

Scored by Tom Odell’s “Can’t Pretend,” the teaser finds Jeff Daniels’ stalwart news anchor touring a desert plain, where he encounters, one by one, other members of the ACN cable news family.

The video closes with the group standing before a television set, with the tagline, “Together, They Stand Alone.”

Did the arid promo whet your appetite for the acclaimed drama’s return on July 14?

  • That’s a horrible ad for a great show.

    • Only three things can explain why this promo for a great show is so bad!!
      1. They wanted to shoot it in Joshua Tree with U2 but the band did not show.
      2. They are cross promoting with the Lone Ranger film for crossover appeal. (Tonto will be at the weather desk.)
      3. It was made be the same people who run MSNBC who believe that their “news” is still good.

  • To be fair, I have been desperate for any type of trailer that this is the best thing since… season 1?

  • I like the slogan, but wasn’t crazy about the trailer. I think they were trying too hard to be artsy, and that artsy feel doesn’t really jive with the tone of the show. I would have just preferred to see fast cuts of dialogue and scenes from the upcoming season. Or edited scenes from the season scored with a song by Scala and Kolacny Brothers. Ha. Nobody is going to get that joke.

  • Looking forward to the show coming back. Trailer can’t diminish my enthusiasm no matter how awful.

  • There is a 90 second beyond the scenes look. I guess I can’t post links to it.

  • Thought for sure it was where they filmed the Star Trek episode Arena and would give us more incentive to throw the nerd hate on Olivia Munn. :-)

  • Diff song and in b&w might have made it watchable..?

  • The promo is more watchable than the actual show.

    • Just curious…did you watch the entire first season? Or are you making your comment based on one episode? Is the dialogue too intelligent for you to understand? If you watched more than one episode and didn’t care for it, why bother watching the promo and commenting? Do you ever comment in a positive way on anything? Is there anything on television that you like?

  • I don’t need a promo to “whet my appetite” – I’ve been looking forward to Season 2 as soon as Season 1 ended.

    • Thats on purpose because, you see, they are the “real”, “old school” journalists. CRT, baby! Not this worst generation ever “flat screen” obsession…
