Billy Crystal Stars FX Pilot The ComediansBilly Crystal appears ready for a primetime comeback, signing on to star in a single-camera comedy pilot for FX.

Titled The Comedians, the potential series finds the nine-time Academy Awards host playing a superstar comedian who is reluctantly paired with a younger, edgier comic for a late-night comedy sketch show.

The project, which counts Larry Charles (Seinfeld), Matt Nix (Burn Notice), Ben Wexler (Community) and Crystal as exec producers/writers, is based on a Swedish series of the same name.

Comedians would mark Crystal’s first full-time TV gig since his one-season stint on Saturday Night Live nearly three decades ago. Prior to that, he spent four years playing Jodie Dallas on the classic ’70s sitcom Soap.
