'Best Dundies Ever!' TVLine Honors The Office With 24 Michael Scott-Approved Awards (Day 3)

The Office Best EpisodesHold me closer, tiny Dundie: The Office‘s series finale is now just one day away (airing Thursday at 9/8c on NBC). But thankfully, my personal Dunder Mifflin-themed kudos-fest is just getting underway, with two more fun-filled posts to go.

Today’s award-ing walk down memory lane features a Jim and Dwight showdown, the return of Agent Michael Scarn, a Kelly Kapoor faux pas and more disdain of Toby Flenderson (who I’m still convinced is the Scanton Strangler). Has your favorite Office gem earned a nod yet?

The ‘Absolutely I Do’ Love Dwight and Jim’s Frenemy-ship Dundie
Runners-Up:
• Jim makes Dwight believe there’s been a murder in his hotel room — “Tallahassee,” Season 8
• Dwight forces Jim to hand-feed him — “Viewing Party,” Season 7
• Jim and Pam pull off a Survivor-eqsue prank on Dwight — “The Alliance,” Season 1
• Jim puts Dwight’s stapler in jello — “Pilot,” Season 1
• Jim helps Dwight see that he’s really loved Angela all along — “A.A.R.M,” Season 9
• Dwight purchases Jim’s magic legumes — “Garage Sale,” Season 7
• Jim makes Dwight believe he’s a vampire — “Business School,” Season 3
• Jim and Dwight each support the other in the search for a new Regional Manager — “Livin’ the Dream,” Season 9
• Jim comforts Dwight after learning that Angela’s broken things off — “Money,” Season 4
• One word: Gaydar. — “Gay Witch Hunt,” Season 3

Winners (TIE):
“Bears. Beets. Battlestar Galactica.” — “Product Recall,” Season 3; Jim makes Dwight fight to become his own Assistant to the Assistant to the Regional Manager — “A.A.R.M.,” Season 9
This category was the hardest yet to narrow down. I could have listed moments between Dwight and Jim for days, so these are just a few of the standouts for me. Jim impersonating Dwight (and Dwight doing it right back) is a classic, and bringing their enemies-turned-friends story full-circle is the more recent installment, which finds Jim giving Dwight one last epic prank to go out on (albeit one far less vicious than some in the past).

Dressed to Distress Dundie:
Runners-Up:
• Michael gets jiggy with it in his “fun jeans” — “The Convention,” Season 3
• Dwight dons the tuxedo his grandfather was buried in — “Casino Night,” Season 2
• Pam wears her old, dorky glasses to the office — “Did I Stutter,” Season 4
• The Dunder Mifflin gang dresses way down — “Casual Friday,” Season 5
• Michael wears “lady clothes” to work — “The Negotiation,” Season 3
• Pam’s “Fashion show! Fashion show! Fashion show at lunch!” — “The Coup,” Season 3

Winner:
Kelly rocks a white gown to the Lapin-Vance nuptials — “Phyllis’ Wedding,” Season 3
This moment sums up Kelly Kapoor perfectly: She’s selfish, she’s shameless, she’s confident and she’s amazing.

The ‘Michael Hates Toby for No Apparent Reason’ Dundie
Runners-Up:
• Michael and Dwight give Toby Imodium instead of Ex-Lax during a 5K — “Fun Run,” Season 4
• Mad that Toby’s back in town, Michael attempts to plant drugs (aka a caprese salad) on him — “Frame Toby,” Season 5
• Goldenface blows “Toby” up, but it’s OK because he was a convicted animal rapist — “Threat Level Midnight,” Season 7
• Michael plays mind games with Toby during a mandatory therapy session — “Counseling,” Season 7
• Michael has a “no, God, please no” reaction to Toby’s return — “Frame Toby,” Season 5

Winner:
“I hate so much about the things that you choose to be” — “Casino Night,” Season 2
We may never know why Michael hated Toby as much as he did, but the former Dunder Mifflin boss sure does use this opportunity to give the HR rep an incredibly inappropriate and even more hilarious tongue-lashing.

Sing Low, Sweet Scranton Dundie
Runners-Up:
• Andy stars in a local production of Sweeney Todd —  “Andy’s Play,” Season 7
• Andy’s records a rocking “Rockin’ Robin” ringtone — “The Return,” Season 3
• Michael soothes his broken heart with a sampling of “Goodbye My Lover” — “A Benihana Christmas,” Season 3
• Michael, Holly and Darryl belt out “Life is a Highway” during a road trip — “Employee Transfer,” Season 5
• Andy and Erin pen an ill-informed Sabre welcome song — “Sabre,” Season 6
• The gang sings a departing Michael off with the Rent-inspired “9,986,000 Minutes” — “Michael’s Last Dundies,” Season 7

Winner:
“The People Person’s Paper People” — “Local Ad,” Season 4
Because Michael Scott can’t receive all of the awards, I gladly give this one to Darryl, Kelly, Creed, Andy and Kevin for their rousing rendition of a Dunder Mifflin Scranton-themed ditty. (Bonus points for Michael’s anger that the song Darryl helmed wasn’t a rap.)

“I enjoy having breakfast in bed. I like waking up to the smell of bacon, sue me! And since I don”t have a butler, I have to do it myself. So, most nights before I go to bed, I will lay six strips of bacon out on my George Foreman Grill. Then I go to sleep. When I wake up, I plug in the grill. I go back to sleep again. Then I wake up to the smell of crackling bacon. It is delicious. It”s good for me. It’s the perfect way to start the day. Today I got up, I stepped onto the grill and it clamped down on my foot. That’s it. I don’t see what’s so hard to believe about that!” Need we say more?

The Dwight & Jim Frenemy-ship would be the hardest for me to choose too, it’s one of the absolute most important parts of the show to me. Which is why I feel this year has actually been pretty good, between the Christmas episode this year, and then A.A.R.M, just… awesome.

  2. Aprilcot says:

Michael’s reaction when he finds out that Toby is back from Costa Rica is one of my all-time favorite Office moments. I’m cracking up just thinking about Michael telling David Wallace he wants to fire Toby “be-CAUSE” he hates him. Ha! Man, I’m going to miss this show.

  3. april-ann says:

Wow, what a list! So fun. I always thought Michael hated Toby because he’s the only one in the office who didn’t report directly to Michael so Michael always considered him an “intruder” in his “family”. There’s also: Someone had to stay back at the office on beach day, so guess who Michael assigned? (And Toby liked Pam at the time, he gave her his sunscreen and she thanked him because she was wearing a two-piece, doh!) And in Benihana Christmas part one, Michael is lying despondent on the floor having just been dumped by Carol. He can barely do anything at all, even speak. But when Dwight tells him that “we’re short one robe” (DM Corporate sent gift bags containing lovely, plush robes) Michael is right away able to muster “take Toby’s”. LOL.

  4. Rachel says:

Dressed up Distress Dundie definitely should have mentioned Kevin’s tissue box shoes at Jim and Pam’s wedding after his own shoes were thrown out because they smelt so bad. Also missed the scene in “the Deposition” where Michael pushes Toby’s lunch tray off the table when he is attempting a heart-to-heart in the “Michael hates Toby for no apparent reason” category.

  5. Stephen says:

The Singing Dundie nominees makes me wonder how much better and longer the show would’ve lasted if they had just gotten rid of Andy 2-3 seasons ago.

  6. Jess says:

Ok so I hate when people do this, but Product Recall was season 3

  7. rebecca says:

Jim & Dwight moments, loved when Dwight’s desk was moved into the bathroom and wrapped everything at his old seat.

  8. Babybop says:

My favorite Dwight and Jim moment is definitely when Jim gave Dwight a mint everytime his computer reset, like he was Pavlov’s dog!

  9. asniech says:

The Injury was one of my all time favorites. The whole episode was hilarious. loved the cold open!
