Happy Endings Axed By ABC — Next Stop USA?

Get More: Cancellations

Happy Endings CancelledAnd now for some not-so-ah-mazing news: ABC has pulled the plug on Happy Endings.

RELATED | ABC Renews Grey’s, Scandal, Suburgatory, Nashville and 6 Others

USA Network has expressed interest in pulling a Cougar Town/TBS and acquiring the series, but no deal is in place at this time. A insider tells TVLine that Sony — the studio behind the show — is going to “fight like hell” to save the show. So there’s that.

TVLine’s Renewal Scorecard has been updated to reflect this unfortunate development.

    • Even though this season wasnt as funny as the others (1st season was the best), I’m gutted.
Hopefully USA will pick it up, now that Burn Notice is ending they should have some cash laying around.

    • No. Please don’t save. I’ve loved this show, but they’ve bungled the characters so that they are no longer relatable or believable. First season was awesome and since then, there have been some bright spots, but not the show this once was. Love the actors, but time to let this ship sink.

      • I wasn’t thinking this before (I was more in the “Aw, that’s too bad” camp), but reading this comment, I agree with you. We’ll always have season 1!

  • And in contrast to NBC, ABC is actually making the right decisions. I’m not surprised. Ratings trump quality (NBC not included)

  • Welp, can’t say it’s a shocker. It was an awesome show but I’ll be satisfied if it pulls an Arrested Development and comes back in a few years. Thanks to the cast and crew for the memories and three seasons.

  • Yes! There’s only so much you can do with such a sup-par product. The writers ruined this show by targeting a very narrow demographic.

    • “The writers ruined this show by targeting a very narrow demographic.”
      .
Yes, it’s true. “Happy Endings” targeted people who enjoy *good* television. Truly a losing strategy. Thanks for pointing that out.

Comment by Malachi – May 10, 2013 07:52 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • What! NO! I completely disagree. The writers are still at their best as far as clever and hilarious writing. The actors have great timing, and give SO much life to the writing/ character’s. I like where the writers are ultimately leaning towards, and that’s random days/events in the character’s lives and less bringing a story together. Go the Seinfeld route, writers. Serious plots ruin a funny show!

Comment by Jessica – May 13, 2013 08:28 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • I like the show, hate they didn’t get a “Happy Ending” (come on USA) but I will have to say season 3′s writing was not nearly as good as 1 or 2.

Comment by Drizz – May 10, 2013 05:40 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • have to agree with this! I’ve re-watched seasons 1 and 2 multiple times but unfortunately in my opinion the majority of season 3 hasn’t been worth a second viewing. Love the show though so hoping it gets a chance on a different network!

Comment by jenna – May 10, 2013 06:05 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • Uhm what? I barely got through Season 1, season 2 got better, but season 3 has been incredible!

Comment by Michi – May 10, 2013 08:04 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • completely agree with this sentiment! I definitely noticed a change in writing style during season 3, and as with you both I didn’t find it to be for the better

Comment by M – May 10, 2013 09:12 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • Tyler’s funeral, the thanksgiving episode, the prank episode

Season 3 was just as good as the earlier 2 seasons

  • Ughhhh…. I cannot believe it! This show is ah-may-zing! Lol. The chemistry and comedic timing is out of this world. I hope USA picks it up. It’ll be odd… they don’t have any 1/2 hour comedies do they? Maybe they plan on changing things around over there – I mean, they must be if they are interested in Happy Endings. They’re mostly known for their hour long dramas. Even though Psych, my favorite show on the planet, is a comedy, it’s also very dramatic… sometimes. Lol. Anyways, maybe they’ll put it on the same night as Psych. That would rock my freaking world.
