So You Think You Can Dance Exclusive: Mary, Cat and Nigel Reminisce on the Eve of Season 10 (!)

It’s hard to fathom Fox’s So You Think You Can Dance is all grown up — and on the brink of its two-night Season 10 premiere (May 14, 8/7c, and May 15, 9/8c). In a few years, in fact, it’ll be a sullen teenager slamming its bedroom door and refusing to do its homework.

To celebrate its milestone season, judges Mary Murphy and Nigel Lythgoe, host Cat Deeley and some of their choreographer cohorts sat down and recounted what SYTYCD has meant to the dance world and how it will look different in its upcoming season — and we’ve got your exclusive first look. Plus, there’s snippets of some of the show’s best routines from years past.

    I heart this show..

  3. Lisa says:

Cat Deeley is the best host on TV. She is the heart of SYTYCD. Cat and the show are underrated! Any news if the show will go back to a two night format?

    • rwfblog says:

I hope it does go to 2 nights/week, but don’t know if it will. They did a reasonably good job last season with one night, though.

And I absolutely agree with you about Cat. I don’t even think of her as a “host” — she transcends that. The best description for her work might be “master of ceremonies”. Her banter with the contestants and judges, as well as her engagement with the audience, all put her in a category all her own.

      • elr says:

Very well said! I LOVE this show and I LOVEEEEEEE Cat! So happy to have it back, and the thing that will send me over the moon would be if there was a results show.

  4. Kiki says:

    Geo-blocked again. Sigh.

  5. Jared says:

Best reality competition show on TV. Period. True talent.

    • cjinsd says:

By miles! Hard to believe Nigel is in charge of this and Idol. SYTYCD is much more organic, so much less producer manipulation. Can’t wait to see the talent.

      • Erin C says:

^^ Exactly!! This totally baffles me!

      • elr says:

Totally agree! Best Reality show without a doubt.

His passion is dance and it shows in SYTYCD. Idol is just a job compared to this…at least that’s my take on things.

        • Temperance says:

The trouble with Idol is that it’s PLASTIC. It’s simply so stilted and unrealistic, from the singer choices, to the songs cleared, to the sets, to the drama… it’s just all so nauseatingly fake.

    • Sheilalala says:

+1, my favorite reality show for 10 years (wow!) And all time. Pure love for this show…

    “This content is currently unavailable.”

  7. Absolutely love SYTYCD, especially Twitch – so glad to see him as a guest judge but want to see him dance as well. Wish they would go back to the two night format.

  8. Vivian Chung says:

I am so bump….can’t view this video because I am from Canada…any chance you can put it up on youtube (a la ENTV) ?

  9. jo skar says:

  10. Please allow this to be seen at least in Canada, if not worldwide…this isn’t fair. :(

  11. twinsgrandma says:

Can hardly wait!!!! This is one of my favorite shows on tv.

  12. Jan1 says:

    I love SYTYCD!

  13. Phronni says:

If they do any kind of results show or just bring in guests, they should have Abby Lee Miller’s girls perform “The Last Text”. You can watch it on YouTube, but be sure to watch the one without the mothers’ comments. Such a powerful dance….

    • Lisa says:

I love that idea. “The Last Text” and “Where Have All The Children Gone” would both appeal to SYTYCD fans. The promotion could bring some DM fans to SYTYCD.
