The X Factor: Mario Lopez Returning as Host — Without Khloe Kardashian

Mario Lopez X Factor Season 3The X Factor‘s Season 3 look continues to take shape — and it’ll definitely have dimples (though fewer bewildered stares).

Indeed, Mario Lopez will return as host of the singing competition, but this time around he won’t be splitting his duties with reality stalwart Khloe Kardashian, Fox announced today.

“I’m thrilled Mario is back for Season Three of The X Factor,” said Simon Cowell. “Hosting a live show and keeping the judges – especially Demi – in line, is not an easy job, but Mario is a pro and we are glad he’s coming back.”

Kardashian’s exit from the show, meanwhile, was first rumored as early as last February, and Fox confirmed today that she won’t be in the mix for Season 3.

“Khloe Kardashian will not be returning to co-host The X Factor,” said the show’s producers, in a statement. “We really enjoyed working with her and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.”

With news of Lopez’s return and Kardashian’s exit, it now stands that only half of the show’s Season 2 regular lineup will return. Along with Lopez, judges Cowell and Lovato are coming back, while L.A. Reid and Britney Spears, along with Kardashian, have exited the show.

Lopez and Kardashian took over as the show’s co-emcees in Season 2, following the exit of British import Steve Jones. The show went through a similar shakeup at the judges’ table after Season 1, when Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger exited to make way for Lovato and Spears.

  • Why is this show still on?? Between the cast if this and American Idol, people have forgotten what a singing show is supposed to be. Thank God we have The Voice!

    • To be fair American Idol is the only one who actually has successful singers…So while the Voice might be what a singing show is supposed to be, it fails in results. It’s 0-3…and that’s pretty bad.

      • I agree, but to be totally fair, Cassadee hasn’t released an album yet. And I think there’s a decent chance it could be successful.

        • No, she has waited to long with no music at all. There will be two winners of The Voice and a winner of Idol, XFactor before she puts anything substantial out. I don’t think that is a recipe for success. No one will care by fall.

          • Exactly…American Idol had Phillip Phillips song right away and it got promoted like crazy. But such a large gap is bad…And still 0-2 is not so great since they’ve only had two CDs.

    • I would rather listen to Candice, Kree and Angie than ANY of the “greats” of the Voice. That includes Cassadee. The Voice is definitely not what a singing show ought to be – the format is so weird and convoluted that no one can understand what happens with out watching the whole season.

    • Not a surprise that she’s not coming back she did BAD! you can tell she had trouble reading the tellerpromter she was a wrong choice to begin with.

And i agree i like simon for what he has done w/american idol for bringing alot of sucess but that show and this X factor show has to go! both are that INTERESTING anymore. w/ the voice dominating the ratings and becoming a HUGE HIT.

      • She did better than him though in that she at least appeared to show some genuine emotions and actually feel what she was saying at times and she occasionally held the judges to task, including Simon, so I actually think she was the better of the two.
        .
Then again, haha, considering what the show was doing half the time, perhaps Mario had it right, how can you actually feel anything when it’s that far off the rails, just fake through it all and pretend you are on Extra reading some ridiculous story.

        • Agreed! They both were pretty bad, but Khloe at least showed concern and emotion for the contestants, and called out the judges. Mario is a robot. When he does try and go off cue, he said some of the strangest things, and not in an interesting or entertaining way.

      • Just to clarify The Voice is averaging about 13 million a week, with Idol in the same field. So its not really dominating, but I think we’ve come to the point where America is on a singing competition overload and the only thing its hurting is our shows. If Fox and NBC were smart they’d make a deal to scrap X-Factor (or make it a smaller summer show?), air The Voice in the Fall, and air American Idol in the spring leaving open each show to be a ratings juggernaut. Will they? No.

  • This news makes my day. Mario is OK. X Factor could do better. The best reality show hosts IMHO are Jeff Probst on ‘Survivor’ and Cat Deely on ‘SYTYCD’. To be fair, Ryan
Seacrest has done a fair job with AI.

    • Phil Keoghan on The Amazing Race. Forgot about him?

Comment by Steve F. – April 22, 2013 11:51 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
      • How is he a good host? I mean, he’s fine for what he does, but he doesn’t do that much. Deely and Seacrest host live shows and Probsf is in on the action. Phil has nothing to do but stand there and tell people what order they come in. He has the job of a stopwatch.

  • I also preferred Khloe over Mario in the-x factor host role. She may have been getting her footing still but she at least seemed genuine. Mario seemed somewhat robotic. Hopefully he makes it more his own. I like the show and surprised that their are so many people hating on it. I guess they are Voice fans. LOL. Roll on x-factor!

  • Mario Lopez better be hosting X Factor alone this upcoming season. Three words: NO MORE KHLOE.

  • Maybe not for the right reasons, but I enjoyed Khloe on the show. She definitely improved over the weeks. If you book someone who’s never hosted before you can’t expect them to do a good job. She was hired for publicity and now that’s failed they’ve axed her.

Comment by Ross – April 22, 2013 11:30 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Geez, even forgetting to wear a bra with a sheer top her first night out didn’t help Khloe much!

Comment by Steve F. – April 22, 2013 11:54 AM PDT  Reply To This Post
  • Love the UK version and also enjoy the Australian version but have to agree the US version has yet to find it’s footing. Khloe was not a good addition and although I’m not a Mario Lopez fan I think he did a good job. Having 2 hosts was just a bad idea. Now if only Simon could convince Cheryl Cole to come back as a judge. That would be the only exciting announcement he could make at this point.

  • Khloe probably wanted to leave for something better. Khloe kan’t get fired she is one of the biggest stars in the entire would. Khloe kan host anything she wants to.

  • Man, he was not good. He sounded more like a gameshow host than a presenter. Makes you realise Ryan Seacrest is more talented than you think! lol

Comment by Jay – April 22, 2013 12:39 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • yeah it’s funny, Ryan Seacrest’s job appears trivial and yet if you look at the other hosts who have tried, none have been close (although MTV DJ guy has done way better than he did the first season and is doing a solid job).

  • Really? The guy who miss-pronounced several contestants names several times? You keep the guy who said Carly Rose Sonenblurg?? Khloe had her faults but she at least knew how to speak an actual language.

  • Khloe was at least fun to watch. Mario is such a bore.

  • i’d pick Khloe over Mario. Khloe is more genuine and caring to the contestants. She is very fun to watch even though she kinda sucks at hosting. Mario is like a game show host. He is soooo boring..

    • I agree!! Khloe seems more genuine which is unnatural for a Kardashian!:) She was a first timer at hosting so obviously she will not be good, but that can be improved!
