Paul_AdelsteinPaul Adelstein is the latest Private Practice alum to book a pilot this development season — and it’s a plum gig.

Per our sister site Deadline, the actor is set to star opposite Debra Messing in CBS‘ untitled comedy from Julie Rottenberg and Elisa Zuritsky and based on the Israeli series Mother’s Day.

In the single-camera comedy about a married mom struggling to balance family, life, and work, Adelstein will play Messing’s TV husband Bryan, a Google employee who might be a smidge oblivious to how much of a burden his wife is contending with.

Previously this pilot season, Adelstein’s Private Practice scene partner KaDee Strickland booked a role on NBC’s pulp drama Bloodline, while Taye Diggs landed the male lead in TNT’s Murder in the First pilot from Stephen Bochco.  Earlier this month, there was talk that Kate Walsh is being eyed as the lead in an NBC comedy pilot from Will Ferrell’s production company.

Started watching Private Practice because of Addison, but Cooper & Charlotte kept me watching the rest of the seasons.. going to miss them but yay for Paul.

  2. janie says:

if debra messing is booking a pilot what does that mean for smash?

    • shuayb says:

Smash has been unofficially cancelled. Its clear even with the revamp people are just not interested. Debra Messing is ,orw a comedienne than a drama actress. Comedy is her forte.

    • Nessie says:

Quoted from Michael on the post that announced Messing being cast in this:
“Technically, the prospective series is in second position to Smash, but the odds of the struggling NBC musical returning next fall are slim at best.”

    • Josh says:

Debra herself commented on Twitter that she loves Smash and everyone involved, but the move to Saturday’s doesn’t bode well. I hope this pilot gets picked up. Paul and Debra would make a great tv couple!

  3. Fernanda says:

I want to see if they have chemistry between each other in a sitcom.

been a fan since Prison Break

  5. Linderella says:

Great news! He and Kaydee Strickland were my favorite Private Practice couple. So glad to see him team up with Debra Messing. I am sorry about Smash but this will lessen the pain!

  6. GC says:

So sad that this smart, funny, sharp, entertaining series may not last.
    WAIT!! I KNOW!!!:
Let’s substitute it with a comedy about 2 women, selling cupcakes, who also happen to have a horse at their back door!!
    Who’d watch THAT??????
