Per our sister site Deadline….

* Fresh off her abbreviated shift as Emily Owens, M.D., Gummer is providing backup to Rainn Wilson’s Backstrom on CBS, filling the female lead role of Nicole Carlton, a competent police detective who is a lesbian.

* Rules Of Engagement‘s Bianca Kajlich and Hellcats alum Aly Michalka have joined NBC’s Undateable comedy, playing a divorced single mom who works as a wine rep and an attractive waitress who is endlessly attracted to jerks, respectively.

* Following a table read, NBC’s Holding Patterns — a comedy about the survivors of a plane crash — has released 666 Park Avenue alum Robert Buckley, after it was decided he looked too much like series lead Humphrey Ker.

* Fox is dry-docking Wild Blue, an upstairs/downstairs drama about the men and women working aboard an aircraft carrier, in part because the real-life vessel they wish to film on was not yet available.

  • Rainn Wilson & Mamie Gummer. The combination I never knew I wanted?

    • I’m still upset about Emily Owens being canceled, but this news is awesome. Please please let this series make it to air!

  • Does this mean Bianca Kajlich is off of Rules of Engagement? And can we put it in her contract to grow out her bangs?

    • Actually it probably means the sad end of Rules Of Engagement. The upcoming 7th season finale is Rules’s 100th episode, which could mean CBS pulling the plug on it. Which would be a real shame for them because Rules has been a great bench show for CBS to put on in place of so many other comedies which they’ve cancelled. Only How I Met Your Mother and 2.5 Men have been on CBS longer than Rules.

      • Rules has always been one of my favorite comedies. Of course there will be some people that say it’s an awful show, not funny, etc but it always makes me laugh. CBS really has treated this show like the red headed step child, for whatever reason – but like you said it has outlasted many other shows.

  • Poor Robert Buckley, he’s so good. And I just googled Ker and they insulted Buckley by saying they look alike.

    • Uh yes so true I went and googled that other guy and its an insult to Robert and his abs to say they look anything alike lol

  • I guess Mamie Gummer will just keep trying until she gets a show that sticks. Talk about a show killer lol

    • She got rave reviews when she was on The Good Wife – and that’s still on the air. Lol.
      .
I think she just needs to find the right project. She’s not a typical leading lady, so she needs an atypical role.

  • Buckley is 100x hotter than that other guy. Why didn’t they recast him?!

Comment by SJ – March 21, 2013 03:20 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • because Humphrey is the lead.

    I’m okay with this.

  • Mammie Gummer proofs one more time mommy can be a super star and a curse for her.

  • How pissed would you be to get fired Bc of looking too much like someone? I can’t help but wonder if if there was some other underlying reason.

Comment by Lauren – March 21, 2013 03:35 PM PDT  Reply To This Post
    • That’s actually a pretty common reason to let someone go from a pilot. Paulo Costanzo almost got fired from Royal Pains for looking too much like Mark Feuerstein but they decided to make the characters brothers instead.

  • a comedy about the survivors of a plane crash, really? im pretty sure the survivors of actual plane crashes dont find it that funny. that just sounds like a terrible concept.

    • Yeah, my exact first thought about that show was, “Wow, what a laugh riot.”

  • I’d rather see Buckley as an often-shirtless love interest for Nolan on Revenge next season, anyway.

  • Mamie Gummer as a lesbian! *so there*. She’s really talented, hopefully this show will be more suited to her than Emily Owens.
    .
I love Aly Michaelka too so I’d watch. Still holding out for Hellcats to return :P

  • Transation *Robert Buckley just wasn’t good enough.* He may be pretty to look at but he is a terrible actor.
