mixtape9_walkingdeadSERIES AND EPISODE | The Walking Dead, “Clear”
TITLE | “Lead Me Home”
ARTIST | Jamie N Commons
ALBUM | The Walking Dead AMC Original Soundtrack – Vol. 1
WHY IT ROCKED | Rick, having reached a new understanding (and dare we suggest fledgling friendship?) with Michonne, lets her drive him and Carl back to the prison. Commons’ melancholy ballad underscores the sweet moment… the fact that they pull over to scavenge the mauled hitchhiker’s backpack notwithstanding.

mixtape9_batbSERIES AND EPISODE | Beauty and the Beast, “Any Means Possible”
TITLE | “We Are Stars”
ARTIST | The Pierces
ALBUM | You & I (2012)
WHY IT ROCKED | “I just wanna be loved by you,” The Pierces sing, echoing what Cat communicates to a wary Vincent when she shows up at his place. Despite his fears – and the scary, savage sex we saw in his nightmare – the first time Vincent and Cat make love is as perfect as she knew it would be (with just a momentary threat of premature beastification).

VANESSA MARANOSERIES AND EPISODE | Switched at Birth, “Tightrope Walker”
TITLE | “Pull Me Back”
ARTIST | Julia Othmer
ALBUM | Oasis Motel (2006)
WHY IT ROCKED | As Othmer croons, “Pull me back into the fold with you,” it seems like that’s exactly what Regina wants. After all, she apologizes to Bay and then calls her Alcoholics Anonymous sponsor – but erases the voicemail before it goes through. Regina should put that song on repeat, because as we now know, her road back to sobriety is a winding one indeed.

mixtape9_new girlSERIES AND EPISODE | New Girl, “TinFinity”
TITLE | “Save Me”
ARTIST | Queen
ALBUM | Queen Greatest Hits (1992)
WHY IT ROCKED | “Uninitiate toast sequence!” Sorry, Schmidt, but the big moment you planned to celebrate 10 years of bro-ship with Nick – complete with Queen accompaniment — is irrevocably hijacked by Shivrang’s proposal to your former boo. At least you’ve still got those streamer cannons… oh wait, nevermind.

mixtape9_mindyprojectSERIES AND EPISODE | The Mindy Project, “The One That Got Away”
TITLE | “Shiny Happy People”
ALBUM | Out of Time (1991)
WHY IT ROCKED | “If I was going to be away from home for several weeks, my parents only trusted me in the gentle hands of the Jews of the Berkshire Mountains,” Mindy says, teeing up a flashback to meeting her first crush Sam Kleinfeld at Camp Takanac. (And like so many other great ’90s love stories, of course it was accompanied by an R.E.M. tune.)

  • You should mention that the theme song for the extended version of the “Go On” opening is “Moves”, by the New Pornographers. In the rare occasions that that opening is shown, that is…

  • Thanks for highlight BATB music, which is one of the many things this show has to give, this is a very under estimated show by many tv sites, but as much as the fanbase is growing people will start to know about the kind of series Beauty and the Beast is not an ordinary series people need to watch this. Thank you TVLINE we beasties appreciate it.

    • Agree 100% – this show is so underestimated. It’s a great series and is getting better and better. I predict it’s going to be one hot series and more people should tune in because they’re missing a wonderful interesting and exciting series. The music is so perfect for each of the episodes. If you watch it, you will get hooked.

  • Beauty and the Beast always has amazing music! One of the many strengths of the show – great chemistry b/w the leads (Kristin and Jay), strong characters, excellent stories and writers! Thanks Michael that was such an amazing, sexy, and romantic scene.

  • That wonderful song ‘Stars’ accompanying that whole last scene in BATB – the Vincent/Catherine lovemaking – will rightly be remembered as one of the best scenes of that ilk EVER on network television.
A shout out has to to go Instinct Entertainment, who provide all the wonderful music on BATB, and have introduced many of us to untold ‘new’ artists in the last few months.
